The BenQ PV3250U is a 32-inch 4K monitor for professional colour grading and video post-production, with a 3000:1 native contrast ratio and hardware-calibrated 16-bit 3D LUT. Its 0.03-nit black level keeps low-grey tones visibly separated rather than merging them into solid black, while full-panel calibration keeps colour and brightness consistent from centre to edge, giving editors and colourists a reliable picture when judging shadow detail.

BenQ PV3250U 32in 4K Monitor for Colour Grading and Video Editing Key Features:

  • 32-inch 4K display provides detailed viewing for video post-production
  • 3000:1 native contrast separates subtle shadow tones without crushing blacks
  • 0.03-nit black level exceeds Grade 1 SDR dark-level requirements
  • 16-bit 3D LUT maps nearly 5,000 RGB points for accurate colour
  • Hardware calibration stores correction data directly within monitor’s IC chip
  • Rec.709 gamma 2.4 tracking preserves visible steps through low-grey tones
  • AQCOLOR technology maintains Delta E≤2 accuracy from factory calibration
  • Full-panel calibration keeps colour and brightness consistent across screen
  • Thunderbolt 4 carries video, data and 96W power through one cable
  • M-book Mode matches monitor colour with Mac and MacBook Pro displays
  • iDevice Color Sync previews colour presentation on iPhone and iPad
  • Built-in ESS DAC supports high-impedance headphones up to 300Ω
  • Shadow Check Mode lifts dark regions while retaining highlight brightness

  • Magnetic shading hood blocks ambient light, glare and neighbouring screen spill
  • Built-in KVM controls two computer systems from one keyboard and mouse

Accurate shadow reproduction

The PV3250U focuses on the low-grey tones where small display variations can affect grading decisions. Its 3000:1 native contrast ratio reaches a stated 0.03-nit black level under Rec.709 conditions, while precise Rec.709 gamma 2.4 tracking maintains separation between closely spaced dark tones. This prevents subtle texture and tonal differences from merging into a single black value, giving colourists a clearer reference when adjusting night scenes, dark clothing, or other low-luminance areas.

16-bit 3D LUT hardware calibration

Calibration takes place within the monitor using a 16-bit 3D LUT that maps nearly 5,000 RGB reference points across the colour space. These measurements correct the relationships among hue, saturation, and gamut, rather than relying solely on one-dimensional tonal adjustments. Calibration data is stored directly within the monitor’s IC chip, reducing reliance on operating system or GPU-based colour corrections. The PV3250U is also Calman-certified, Calman Ready, and ColourSpace-integrated for established SDR colour workflows.

Consistent colour across the panel

Colour accuracy needs to remain consistent across the entire 32-inch display, particularly when comparing different areas of a frame. A full-panel global calibration with micro-zone correction addresses variations in colour and brightness between the centre and edges. AQCOLOR technology provides factory-calibrated Delta E≤2 colour accuracy, with support for standards including Rec.709, DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB. Consistent colour provides a more dependable visual reference when assessing colour, exposure and tonal balance across the frame.

Mac integration and studio connectivity

The PV3250U connects a compatible MacBook via Thunderbolt 4, carrying video, data up to 40Gbps, and up to 96W of power over a single cable. M-book Mode matches the monitor's colour with Mac and MacBook Pro displays, while iDevice Color Sync provides a preview of how colour will appear on an iPhone or iPad before export. On macOS, keyboard controls can adjust MacBook and monitor brightness or volume together, reducing the need for separate adjustments between displays. Compatible Apple Silicon Pro, Max and Ultra systems can also use daisy-chaining for dual 4K monitors, although this feature is not supported on M1 and M2-based devices.

Image assessment and direct controls

Shadow Check Mode temporarily raises the visibility of dark regions while retaining highlight brightness, making cleanup issues, compositing artefacts and other inconsistencies easier to identify without altering the underlying grade. Area Zoom enlarges a selected part of the frame for checking focus and fine detail, while built-in markers provide aspect-ratio references for different delivery formats. The Wireless Hotkey Puck G4 provides direct access to assigned functions, including colour mode, input, and KVM, with a rotary dial controlling brightness, contrast, and volume. A one-piece magnetic shading hood blocks ambient light, glare and spill from neighbouring displays that could affect visual assessment.

FAQs:

Does the PV3250U maintain consistent colour across the whole screen?

Yes. The PV3250U features full-panel global calibration and micro-zone correction to address variations in colour and brightness across the 32-inch panel. This system reduces the likelihood that the same image appears different when viewed near the centre or the edges of the display. AQCOLOR technology provides factory-calibrated Delta E≤2 colour accuracy, and a factory calibration report is supplied with the monitor.

Can the PV3250U connect to a MacBook Pro via a single cable?

Yes. Thunderbolt 4 carries the video signal, data and up to 96W of power through a single connection. A compatible MacBook Pro can therefore output to the PV3250U while receiving power from the monitor, reducing the number of separate connections required at the desk. The connection supports data transfer speeds up to 40Gbps and is fully compatible with USB-C.

Can the PV3250U run two 4K displays via daisy-chaining?

Yes, the PV3250U supports daisy-chaining for dual 4K displays when connected to a compatible computer. Apple Silicon M1 and M2 devices do not natively support the required multi-monitor configuration, so this function is not available on those processors. BenQ states that daisy-chaining can be used with Apple Silicon Pro, Max and Ultra-based devices. This provides a more direct connection between the computer and a compatible dual-monitor configuration.

What does the built-in KVM switch do?

The built-in KVM switch allows a single keyboard and mouse to control two connected computer systems, reducing the amount of duplicated equipment required around a multi-computer workstation. A post-production desk using a Mac Studio and PC, for example, can switch control between the two without requiring separate input devices. Grading panels can form part of this arrangement, although compatibility varies between third-party hardware.

What adjustments does the monitor stand provide?

The stand provides 115mm of height adjustment, tilt from -5° to 20°, swivel through 15° in either direction and a 90° pivot. These adjustments position the panel according to the operator's viewing height and working angle. The swivel range also allows the screen to be turned for review without moving the entire workstation. A 90° pivot provides vertical orientation when required.

What is the purpose of the magnetic shading hood?

The one-piece magnetic hood attaches directly to the monitor without tools or separate assembly. Once fitted, it blocks ambient light, glare and light spill from surrounding displays before that light reaches the screen. Reducing these external reflections makes it easier to judge dark tones and colour without room lighting influencing their appearance. The magnetic attachment also makes the hood straightforward to remove when the display needs repositioning.
