About Tom Mason
It would be fair to say I have always been a little different. Whilst my friends were buying PS3s, I was saving for lenses. Instead of Fifa, I was playing with cameras and when it came down to education, mine was mostly outdoors.
I have always had a passion for adventure and exploration, but for a long time I didn't have any clue how I could form that into a possible career. After I was given my first camera (A second-hand OM10) things started to fall into place, with my passion for the outdoors and wildlife, marrying up with my new found interest in visual imaging. For the first time ever, I had a clear idea of what I wanted to become.
From that moment on the camera has become a permanent addition to my side. I feel rather odd without a camera, it doesn't define me as a person, but it is a huge part of who I am. There will always be at least one in my bag, from my IPhone to pro DSLR, I always carry something I can use to produce images.
As a photographer I have worked on a number of long and short term projects, photographing Foxes, Hares and all matter of UK wildlife. In the last couple of years I have been lucky enough to travel, working in Latvia, Peru and most recently Serbia. I do enjoy working away, but the UK will always be home, this little island is brimming with life and over the next few years is also going to be a major focus for some of my ongoing projects.
Over the last couple of years my works have been featured in numerous publications. I have contributed to the likes of BBC Wildlife Magazine, Birdwatching, Nikon Owner, Photography Monthly as well as national newspapers. I currently write for the Wex Photographic blog and I am also a popular speaker, having given many talks about wildlife photography, with them all receiving great reviews, I bring passion and enthusiasm to my subject and can ensure you will have a great evening. In addition, I am also a passionate conservationist. I am happy to provide discounts and support for conservation charities and always look to support great causes with my photographic work. In addition to my photography I am a regular volunteer teacher at my local RSPB reserve, as I truly feel education is vital in order to inspire the next generation to conserve our beautiful yet fragile planet.
