Just in case the new Nikon 70-200mm VR II didn’t have you reaching for the bank manager’s phone number, details of Nikon’s latest pro telephoto lens may tempt you: An AF-S 300mm f2.8 ED VR II Nikkor lens with the latest generation Vibration Reduction and a new A/M focus mode. Because it’s nearly Christmas, Nikon have also released a new 2x teleconverter, the TC-20E III, which has a completely new optical design.
The new Nikon 300mm VR II lens
The Vibration Reduction technology (VR II) found in the new 300mm f2.8 offers up to 4 f-stops of compensation against camera shake. Combined with the relatively light weight of 2900g, the powerful VR opens up the possibility of hand-held telephoto photography.
To enhance focusing performance a new A/M mode is available alongside the existing M/A & M modes, offering complete flexibility in the autofocus priority whilst handling the manual focus ring.
Designed with professional photographers in mind, the Nikon 300mm f2.8 continues to offer important features for optimal imaging: Fast & quiet autofocus to keep up with the action without disturbing your subjects, sealing against dust & moisture, and superb image quality courtesy of three ED glass elements & Nano Crystal coating.
Nikon AF-S TC-20E III Teleconverter
The new TC-20E III features a completely new optical design, including the world’s first aspherical lens element in a teleconverter. The aim of the TC-20E III is to deliver 2x magnification with a minimal impact on image quality. Combined with the new 300mm f2.8 VR II the TC-20EIII produces an effective 600mm f5.6 (2 f-stops light loss).
For many photographers using a 2x teleconverter has meant sacrificing image quality for practicality. The ground breaking optics in the new AF-S Teleconverter TC-20E III are designed to offer photographers great images when they need to extend the reach of their NIKKOR telephoto lenses. - Zurab Kiknadze, Nikon Product Manager for Lenses, Accessories & Software
