The Ricoh CX2 is a fairly similar spec to the CX1; the notable upgrades are the 28-300mm lens and 5 frames per second capability (formerly 28-200mm and 4fps on the CX1). The high-resolution 3 inch LCD screen remains unchanged, as does the distinctive styling – apart from the addition of a textured grip.

The 9 megapixel CMOS sensor and Smooth Imaging Engine IV promise reduced noise in high ISO images and combine to offer the CX2’s strongest selling point: Expanded dynamic range. The expanded dynamic range mode was well received in Ricoh CX1 reviews, and is retained in the CX2, offering a dynamic range up to 12EV.

The new Dynamic Range mode works really well, resulting in images that have noticeably more dynamic range that those shot in the Normal mode, and far surpassing most other compact cameras. – PhotographyBlog.com reviewing the Ricoh CX1

Ricoh bill the CX2 as “a tool you will want to use every day” – what do you think? Is the CX2 a front-runner in the serious compact camera arena?
