With most bulky telephoto lenses weighing in at 1kg, it's refreshing to see that Fujifilm's XF 70-300mm F4-5.6 R LM OIS WR telephoto lens prioritises portability. This interchangeable zoom lens is specific to the X Series, providing image-makers with a broad scale of focal lengths, an efficient linear motor for AF, and up to 5.5-stops of optical image stabilisation. The lens combines 17 elements into 12 groups (one aspherical element and two ED elements), all within a weather-resistant housing. The XF 70-300mm is best suited to photographing sport, nature (bird-watching), and other instances where the subject is at a significant distance from the camera. With the addition of a compatible teleconverter (not included), the XF2X TC WR for example - the maximum magnification extends to an incredible 0.66x (the 35mm equivalent of 1:1 magnification) - the ideal setup for those wanting to try their hand at macro photography.

Expanded Fujifilm XF 70-300mm F4-5.6 R LM OIS WR Key Features:
Maximum Magnification
This telephoto lens has a minimum focus distance of 83cm and an impressive magnification of 0.33x (the 35mm equivalent 0.5x). Along with the XF 70-300mm F4-5.6's long-distance capabilities, you can also achieve dynamic close-up images by making smaller objects (flowers, insects etc.) fill the full-frame. With the addition of a compatible teleconverter, the XF2X TC WR for example - the maximum magnification extends to an incredible 0.66x (the 35mm equivalent of 1:1 magnification). The XF2X TC WR is not included here, however, this is the ideal setup for those wanting to try their hand at macro photography (unique form of image-making where objects/subjects that cannot be seen in detail by the naked eye, are enlarged). When using an additional teleconverter such as the FUJINON XF1.4X TC WR or FUJINON XF2X TC WR, there is no reduction in the performance of the phase-detection autofocus.
5.5-Stop Image Stabilisation
A recurring issue with shooting at a longer focal length is the constant camera shake. The XF 70-300mm F4-5.6 offers 5.5-stops of optical image stabilisation (OIS) to minimise this; a great feature for when shooting sport/movement at a distance. When combined with the likes of the in-body image stabilisation (IBIS) system found in FUJIFILM X-T4 and FUJIFILM X-S10, this lens's OIS capabilities allow for five-axis stabilisation - Significantly reduces further camera-shake caused by linear shift.
Focal Lengths To Suit Every Occasion
The XF 70-300mm F4-5.6 offers such a broad range of focal lengths ranging from 70mm - 300mm (35mm equivalent of 107mm - 457mm), making it an incredibly versatile lens for shooting live-sport, wildlife, and general shooting when the subject is at a significant distance from the camera. It's also incredibly portable for a telephoto lens, more akin to the size and weight of most standard zoom lenses. It weighs just 580g, with bulkier telephoto lenses weighing as much as 1kg.
The XF 70-300mm F4-5.6 lens does, however, combine 17 elements into 12 groups - to include one aspherical component and two ED elements. As such a high-quality telephoto lens, Fujifilm have cleverly packed all of this power into a compact and lightweight housing for improved portability. If you are looking for a winning combination that prioritises versatility and portability even further, consider the XF 70-300mm F4-5.6 and FUJINON XF 16-80mm F4 R OIS WR lenses. With just these two FUJINON lenses in your pack, you will be able to capture some seriously stunning still images.

FAQs:
What is a telephoto lens?
A telephoto lens has the ability to increase focal length. They are utilised most commonly for capturing subjects that are at a significant distance from the camera with accurate perspective and precise detail. This was once only possible with close-range photography, with serious steps taken to improve telephoto lenses to make them more powerful and even more portable. However, most telephoto lenses are quite bulky and weigh upwards of 1kg. The Fujifilm XF 70-300mm F4-5.6 R LM OIS WR stands out because of its versatility and improved portability, ideal for taking with you for day-to-day shooting and image-capturing adventures.
What is macro photography?
The XF2X TC WR is not included here, however, this is the ideal setup for those wanting to try their hand at macro photography. This is a unique form of image-making where objects/subjects that cannot be seen in detail by the naked eye are enlarged. The most common examples of this would be stunning images of insects, where the details in their wings or the unique shapings of their eyes can be seen in intense detail. Or, beautiful images of flowers and intricate framings of nature that you can't usually see.
