FAQs:
How noticeable is the improved cooling?
It makes a clear difference when you are working at or near full power. The flash keeps recycling consistently without the usual slowdown or thermal cut-off you might expect from a unit this size. Shooting short bursts or sequences feels more predictable, especially during portrait sessions or fast-paced setups. It is less about peak power and more about maintaining it steadily.
Does the colour-coded group system actually help on set?
Yes, especially once you are running multiple lights. Instead of checking channels or firing test pops, you can see group assignments instantly from the ring. It speeds up small adjustments when you are moving between lights, particularly in low light or busy environments. It is a simple addition that reduces friction in multi-light setups.
Is the power sufficient for outdoor shooting?
At 100Ws with HSS, it handles fill light and controlled portraits outdoors without much difficulty. You can balance daylight or shoot with wider apertures, though it is still a compact unit, so it works best when used closer to the subject or with efficient modifiers. For heavier overpowering of sunlight, you would still step up to a larger head.
How flexible is the modifier system?
The magnetic mount is quick to use and encourages small adjustments without interrupting the shoot. You can swap diffusion, grids, or domes in seconds. With the S3 adapter, it opens up to full Bowens modifiers, so the same light can move from a small on-location setup into a more controlled studio arrangement without changing systems.
How do you charge the flash head?
USB-C makes it straightforward to charge between shoots without carrying a dedicated charger. You can plug it into a power bank or standard mains adapter, which is useful when travelling light. Charging is not as fast as swapping batteries, but it adds flexibility. It also simplifies packing for location work.
