Neumann TLM 193 Microphone Key Features:
- Reference class microphone has a simple design and is easy-to-use
- Features a fixed cardioid polar pattern without off-axis colouration
- Offers an excellent transient response and neutral character of a small diaphragm
- The K 89 Large-diaphragm condenser capsule provides high sensitivity
- Delivers a true and natural sound reproduction
- Operates on a transformerless circuit for minimised transmission loss
- Ensures a vast dynamic range of 130 dB
- Capable of capturing very soft and very loud sound sources without sonic degradation
- Without a pad switch, it can handle an SPL capability of 140 dB
- Ideally used for vocals and speech applications such as dubbing and voice-overs
- Can be used as a spot microphone in orchestral recordings
- Has a compact construction and a dark colour finish
- Offers an extremely low self-noise of up to 10 dB-A
- Delivers a linear frequency response throughout an incidence angle of 200-degree
- Ensures a good common-mode rejection and prevents RF interference
Expanded Neumann TLM 193 Microphone Key Features:
Uniform Cardioid Pattern
The TLM 193 is a cardioid-only version of the reference microphone TLM 107 R. The K 89 large-diaphragm capsule features a fixed cardioid pattern with even frequency response. The compact design and the uniform pickup pattern make it easy to use, where it can simply be aimed towards the source and start recording. The linear response is maintained throughout an incidence angle of 200-degree and the signals coming from the side are also reproduced without colouration. The diffuse-field response of the microphone enables it to maintain the tonal quality of the recording in a reverberant environment where more reflections arrive at the microphone from different directions.
Transformer-less Circuit
The TLM series of the Neumann microphones use an electronic circuit/transformer-less circuit (TLM). It ensures a good common-mode rejection and prevents any RF interference. The transmission losses are minimised and the vast dynamic range of 130 dB can capture very soft and loud sound sources. It offers a very low self-noise of 10 dB-A, and a high SPL capability of up to 140 dB, free from any distortion. The condenser capsule of the microphone combines the best of both small- and large-diaphragm microphones. It combines the neutral character and transient response of the small diaphragm with the smoothness and high sensitivity of the large diaphragm.
Applications
The sonic purity and uniform cardioid pattern make the TLM 193 a very easy-to-use microphone. It simply has to be pointed towards the sound source to start recording. As it retains the natural sound source, this microphone works great for vocals and speech applications such as dubbing and voice-overs. The compact construction enables its use in broadcast or home studios and is useful even in large setups. The linear response makes it an ideal spot microphone in orchestral recordings, e.g., for low strings and woodwinds.

FAQs:
How can noise interference be suppressed?
The frequency response of the microphone extends below 20 Hz and is sensitive to low-frequency interference such as structure-borne noise or pop noises. Depending upon the situation, it is recommended to use an elastic suspension, a pop screen or a foam windscreen to suppress the interference.
Which power supply is used by the microphone?
The TLM 193 is phantom powered at 48 V and can also use battery units, such as the BS 48 I, if a mains power source is not available.
What is the capsule’s pickup pattern?
The K 89 capsule of the microphone has a uniform and fixed cardioid pickup pattern with a high common-mode rejection. Its axis of maximum sensitivity is arranged radially, i.e., at right angles to the axis of the body. Signals coming from the side are reproduced without any colouration.
How much does it weigh?
The microphone has a simple and small design with a dark colour scheme to be visually unobtrusive. The compact design and weight of approximately 480 grams enable easy handling.
Which all accessories are compatible with the microphone?
Various Neumann accessories can be used with the microphone such as stand mounts, microphone cable, table and floor stands, an auditorium hanger, pop screen/windscreen, and stand extensions.
