The Nikon 35 mm f1.8G ED AF-S Nikkor Lens offers a maximum f1.8 aperture and is compatible with both FX- and DX-format digital SLR cameras. The lens uses a fast Silent Wave Motor (SWM) for quiet and precise autofocus operation, while its wide f1.8 aperture ensures outstanding low-light performance and a bright viewfinder experience.
Great for handheld street photography, travel, portraiture, and landscape, the Nikon 35mm f1.8 produces beautifully sharp images with a soft, naturally blurred background.

Naturally beautiful photos and HD videos
On an FX-format Nikon camera, a 35 mm lens approximates the angle of view we see with our eyes, an ideal perspective for many photo and HD video applications. The AF-S NIKKOR 35 mm f/1.8G ED combines that natural perspective (52.5 mm equivalent on DX-format cameras) with an f/1.8 maximum aperture for outstanding depth of field control and low-light performance - all in a compact, lightweight design. Capture vibrant natural looking photos and HD videos with softly blurred backgrounds, even in low light.
Unleash your camera's potential
A great lens draws peak performance from a camera, and the AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G ED is no exception. Impressive on Nikon's FX- and DX-format D-SLRs, it delivers consistent, superlative performance, even in tough shooting situations. Aspherical (AS) and Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass elements combat sagittal flare at wide aperture settings. Super Integrated coatings (SIC) enhance contrast and colour and almost entirely eliminate ghosting, even in backlit scenes. Plus, Nikon's innovative Silent Wave Motor (SWM) uses ultrasonic waves for fast, accurate, and quiet autofocusing.
Build an exceptional fast prime lens system
The AF-S NIKKOR 35 mm f/1.8G ED completes Nikon's versatile collection of advanced f/1.8 FX-format prime lenses, joining the 28 mm, 50 mm and 85 mm versions. All 4 lenses offer the latest Nikon advancements and optical design characteristics, providing consistent performance at each focal length: wide-angle, standard and medium telephoto.
Technical Terms
SWM - Silent Wave Motor
AF-S is what Nikon calls their ultra-fast Auto-Focusing lenses which utilise Nikon's silent wave motor (SWM). This system works by converting ultrasonic waves into rotational energy to focus the optics. These waves move in a spiral pattern inside the barrel with the motor positioned on top of the waves, driving it from below.
AS - Aspherical Lens
A lens with a curved, non-spherical surface. Used to reduce aberrations and enable a more compact lens size. Aspherical lenses minimize coma and other types of lens aberration, even when used at the widest aperture. They are particularly useful in correcting distortion in wide-angle lenses and help contribute to a lighter, more compact design by reducing the number of standard (spherical) elements. Aspherical lens elements correct these distortions by continuously changing the refractive index from the centre of the lens.
RF - Rear Focusing
A system in which only the rear lens group moves during focusing, eliminating changes in the physical length of the lens during focusing and enabling faster focusing. Such lenses are designated with RF on the lens barrel.
SIC - Super Integrated Coating
Nikon Super Integrated Coating is Nikon's term for its multilayer coating of the optical elements in NIKKOR lenses.
ED - (Extra-Low Dispersion) Glass
An optical glass developed by Nikon that is used with normal optical glass in telephoto lenses to obtain optimum correction of chromatic aberrations.
