The Nikon Monarch M5 12x50 Binoculars combine stronger 12x magnification with 50mm objective lenses for bright, detailed long-distance viewing in a relatively light body. ED glass, fully multicoated optics, and phase-corrected dielectric-coated roof prisms help keep the image sharp and natural, while the waterproof nitrogen-filled construction, long eye relief, and stable handling make them well suited to extended outdoor use.

FAQs:
Are the Monarch M5 12x50 binoculars a good choice for distant wildlife and birding?
Yes. The 12x magnification provides more reach than a 10x binocular, which helps when subjects are farther away in wetlands, open countryside, or coastal areas. The trade-off is that higher magnification can be a little less forgiving handheld, but the extra detail is useful when you are trying to pick out finer markings or behaviour at a distance. They are suitable for open-area observation.
How do they perform in lower light?
The 50mm objective lenses gather a good amount of light, which helps at dawn, dusk, or under overcast skies. The 4.2mm exit pupil is smaller than on the 10x50 version, but still comfortable enough for general low-light outdoor viewing. Combined with fully multicoated optics and dielectric-coated prisms, the image should remain bright and high-contrast for this magnification class. They are a sensible balance of reach and brightness rather than a specialist low-light binocular.
Are they comfortable to use with glasses?
Yes. The Monarch M5 12x50 offers 16.4mm of eye relief, which is helpful for users wearing glasses. Nikon also includes turn-and-slide eyecups, so it is easy to set the eye position correctly for direct viewing or for use with spectacles. Comfort matters more with 12x binoculars because you tend to spend longer settling the image, making it an important part of the design.
Are these binoculars waterproof and fog-resistant?
Yes. Nikon states that the binoculars are nitrogen-filled and O-ring sealed, which helps prevent internal fogging when moving between different temperatures and working in damp conditions. That makes them better suited for boating, wildlife observation, and year-round general outdoor use. The rubber-armoured body also helps with grip when hands are cold or the weather turns wet. They are designed for use outdoors rather than occasional fair-weather viewing.
Should I use these binoculars on a tripod?
It depends on how long you plan to observe and how steady your hands are, but tripod support can be very useful at 12x magnification. For quick handheld viewing, they are still manageable, especially at 650g, but longer sessions can benefit from the extra stability. If you are watching distant birds, scanning coastlines, or looking at the moon, mounting them with an optional adapter will make fine detail easier to hold.

The Buy Now Pay Later option comprises a 36 month loan following a six month deferral period.
During the six-month deferral period, it is possible to pay off the loan, either by way of a lump sum or in smaller amounts. If the loan is partially repaid within six months, the remaining interest will be adjusted to reflect the new balance. If the loan is fully repaid within the six-month deferral period, then no interest is payable, however, a £29 early settlement fee is payable in respect of repayments within these six months.
Following the six-month deferral period, Novuna Personal Finance will initiate a monthly direct debit payment for the remaining duration of the loan. Interest will be charged at a rate of 18.9% APR (representative) on outstanding balances (backdated to the first date of the loan). Novuna Personal Finance will send a reminder letter approximately one month before the six-month deferral period is due to elapse.
