What does hydrogen-alpha observing show compared to white-light filters?
Hydrogen-alpha observing isolates light at 656.28nm, revealing activity in the Sun’s chromosphere rather than just the photosphere. This type of observation allows you to see prominences, filaments, plage regions and surface texture that are entirely invisible with white-light filters. The view feels more three-dimensional, with constant motion across the disc. It is a fundamentally different way of observing the Sun.
How is the Heliostar-100Ha tuned during use?
The telescope uses a pressure-tuning system integrated into the etalon assembly. By gently adjusting the tuner, you can fine-tune the passband by adjusting the internal pressure, letting you quickly balance surface detail and prominences while observing. Adjustments are smooth, and you can carry them out while looking through the eyepiece.
Is the telescope safe to use straight out of the box?
Yes, when used exactly as instructed. The Heliostar-100Ha includes multiple safety systems, including infrared reflection, UV blocking and a dedicated 20mm blocking filter. The supplied solar diagonal is a critical part of this safety design and must be used at all times. Never substitute components or attempt modifications.
Can the Heliostar-100Ha be used for imaging?
The telescope is suitable for CCD and planetary-style solar cameras using the supplied 1.25-inch format and appropriate back focus. Buy now pay later
The Buy Now Pay Later option comprises a 36 month loan following a six month deferral period.
During the six-month deferral period, it is possible to pay off the loan, either by way of a lump sum or in smaller amounts. If the loan is partially repaid within six months, the remaining interest will be adjusted to reflect the new balance. If the loan is fully repaid within the six-month deferral period, then no interest is payable, however, a £29 early settlement fee is payable in respect of repayments within these six months.
Following the six-month deferral period, Novuna Personal Finance will initiate a monthly direct debit payment for the remaining duration of the loan. Interest will be charged at a rate of 18.9% APR (representative) on outstanding balances (backdated to the first date of the loan). Novuna Personal Finance will send a reminder letter approximately one month before the six-month deferral period is due to elapse.
