What does the <0.5 Angstrom bandpass mean in practical viewing terms?
A narrower bandpass isolates the H-alpha wavelength more tightly, which increases contrast in solar surface detail and prominences. With <0.5 Angstrom performance, the Heliostar-76Ha shows filaments, spicules, and active regions more clearly than wider-band systems. This level of contrast is usually associated with double-stacked setups, but here it is achieved with a single etalon. The result is strong disk detail without extra complexity or cost.
How does pressure tuning affect use?
Pressure tuning allows you to shift the etalon evenly across the field, helping maintain consistent contrast from edge to edge. This tuning makes it easier to bring the entire solar disk into optimal focus without uneven brightness. Adjustments are smooth and repeatable, which is helpful during longer observing sessions. It also avoids the image tilt sometimes seen with mechanical tuning systems.
Is the telescope suitable for solar imaging as well as visual use?
Yes. The Heliostar-76Ha supports CCD and camera imaging using a 1.25-inch adaptor, provided the camera back focus is 58mm or less. The 6mm solar image size works well with many small-format sensors used for solar work. The stable bandpass and fine focuser control make it suitable for both stills and video capture.
What safety systems are built into the telescope?
The telescope uses multiple layers of protection, including infrared-reflecting film, a heat-blocking filter, and UV filtration. Front and rear filters ensure only the 656.28nm H-alpha wavelength reaches the eyepiece or camera. It also meets ISO 12312-2:2015 standards for direct solar observation. As with all solar equipment, it should always be used exactly as instructed.
What mounting is recommended for comfortable observing?
A tracking mount is strongly recommended to keep the Sun centred during viewing and imaging. Sky-Watcher’s SolarQuest solar Go-To mount is a common pairing, as it automatically locates and tracks the Sun once aligned, reducing constant manual adjustment, making longer sessions more relaxed and controlled.

Buy now pay later
The Buy Now Pay Later option comprises a 36 month loan following a six month deferral period.
During the six-month deferral period, it is possible to pay off the loan, either by way of a lump sum or in smaller amounts. If the loan is partially repaid within six months, the remaining interest will be adjusted to reflect the new balance. If the loan is fully repaid within the six-month deferral period, then no interest is payable, however, a £29 early settlement fee is payable in respect of repayments within these six months.
Following the six-month deferral period, Novuna Personal Finance will initiate a monthly direct debit payment for the remaining duration of the loan. Interest will be charged at a rate of 18.9% APR (representative) on outstanding balances (backdated to the first date of the loan). Novuna Personal Finance will send a reminder letter approximately one month before the six-month deferral period is due to elapse.
