What lights does the SmallRig LA-O65 softbox fit?
The LA-O65 uses a Bowens S-mount, so it fits compatible Bowens-mount LED point-source lights. It is compatible with SmallRig RC 120D, RC 120B, RC 220D, RC 220B, RC 350D, RC 350B, RC 450D and RC 450B lights. The Bowens mount locks the softbox to the front of the fixture, placing the light source inside the modifier. From there, the silver interior and diffusion cloths spread the beam across the softbox face.
How does the softbox change the light?
The softbox increases the size of the light source relative to the subject. As the LED output hits the reflective interior and passes through the diffusion cloth, it spreads over the 65cm octagonal front rather than coming from a small bare emitter. This softens shadow edges and gives a more natural-looking catchlight in the eyes. This feature works particularly well close to a subject, where the larger surface can wrap light more gently around the facial shape.
