The Blackmagic Micro Converter BiDirectional SDI/HDMI 3G is the smallest USB-powered broadcast-quality video converter. It can convert SDI to HDMI and vice versa, at the same time, even in different formats. This compact converter supports camera control protocol conversion and comes with a 100 V to 240 V AC power supply, with international socket adapters.

Compact and Rugged Design

The Blackmagic Micro Converter is the smallest video converter, featuring a compact design, for all kinds of broadcasts and live-streaming. This USB-powered converter can be powered by any television or laptop computer for portable use. It can convert any computer display or video projector into a high-quality, colour calibrated, broadcast monitor. It features high-quality broadcast technology, engineered into the miniaturised metal housing.

BiDirectional SDI and HDMI Conversion

This bi-directional converter can be used to convert SDI to HDMI or HDMI to SDI at the same time, in different formats. It can connect computers to SDI broadcast systems or convert HDMI cameras to professional SDI format. It supports a wide range of SDI formats and can automatically switch between standard definition and high definition. Using the setup utility, you can select between levels A and B when working with 3G-SDI video standards.

Broadcast Quality Conversion

This pocket-sized converter delivers broadcast-quality results, thanks to the high-quality signal processing and deep bit depth video pipeline. It features SDI reclocking, which regenerates SDI video and reduces SDI jitter for long-distance SDI cables. It can become extremely useful for live production where cameras and other equipment are connected to switchers at a long distance. It works with both 8- and 10-bit video formats, supporting a wide range of SD and HD formats.

Camera Control

The bidirectional signal conversion supports Blackmagic Camera Control and Tally so that a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera can be used with an ATEM SDI switcher. ATEM switchers send camera control over SDI and the converter can translate this to HDMI for the camera. A utility setup can be used to change the converter name and set the camera number so that the converter knows when it is being controlled from a live production switcher. To ensure that the data from the ATEM switcher is sent to the correct camera, the ATEM camera ID number has to be matched with the ATEM’s input number.

What connections does this converter support?

The Blackmagic BiDirectional Micro Converter has the following connections for SDI to HDMI or HDMI to SDI conversion: HDMI OUT Type-A, HDMI IN, USB Type-C, SDI OUT, and SDI IN. The small LEDs on the converter indicate the connection status as the LEDs next to HDMI input and SDI input will light up when a valid connection is detected.

How is the converter powered?

This converter is powered via the included USB Type-C connection. The included 100-240 AC power supply can be used or it can also be powered using the computer laptops or television. The included 4 international socket adapters let you secure a connection to any power outlet, anywhere in the world. Smartphone chargers and rechargeable battery packs can also be used to power the converter.

The converter is recommended to be stored in an optimal temperature range of -20 to 60 degrees Celsius. The operating temperature for the converter is 0 to 40 degrees Celsius and 0 to 90 percent of non-condensing relative humidity.
