First-ever full-frame devices from Panasonic announced alongside initial lens offering
The LUMIX S1R and S1 will both be available in early 2019, and will both feature full-frame sensors.
Following the news earlier today that they would be joining Leica and Sigma as part of an “L-Mount Alliance”, Panasonic has wasted no time in revealing its first creations for its new mount. The LUMIX S1R and S1 will both be available in early 2019, and will both feature full-frame sensors. The initial specifications for both cameras are as follows…

The S1R is touted as being designed with “ultimate picture creation” in mind, while the S1 has been produced for “next generation hybrid photo and video creators”. Both cameras will also benefit from contrast detection autofocus systems with depth from defocus technology (DFD), high flash synchronisation speeds, superior quality EVF’s and 100% sealing.
Alongside these two cameras, the company will be launching three initial LUMIX S Series lenses, a 50mm f/1.4 prime lens, a 24-105mm standard zoom and a 70-200mm telephoto zoom.
Professional support for this system will come for the LUMIX PRO club, an expansion of the LUMIX Professional services programme already running in Japan. GH4, GH5, GH5s and G9 customers will be also able to register for LUMIX PRO services within the US, Germany, UK, France, Italy and Spain. The registration will open in Europe shortly, with an initial free of charge registration period.
A further announcement from Panasonic was for its existing Micro Four Third system, where it will be producing a 10-25mm (35mm camera equivalent: 20-50mm) f/1.7 Wide Zoom Lens. This will be the world’s first zoom lens to have this ultra-fast constant aperture.
