Canon have splashed into the underwater digital camera market with the addition of the Canon PowerShot D10 digital camera to their range. The announcement came as part of their recent spate of pre-PMA launches, which also included three other PowerShot's, the SX200, A1100 and A2100, as well as a further four models for the IXUS range, the Canon IXUS 95, 100, 110 and 990 IS.
As Canon's first venture into fully waterproof digital cameras, the Canon PowerShot D10 hosts a full quiver of features, from 12.1 megapixels to a 3x optical zoom, as well as a 2.5" LCD on which you can track faces with Face Select and Track. The PowerShot D10 also boasts Blink Detection and Face Self Timer, as well as being dustproof, waterproof up to 10 meters, freeze proof up to -10 degrees and shockproof when dropped from a height up to 1.22m.
Canon PowerShot D10 Adventures
Together these features mean that the Canon PowerShot D10 underwater digital camera is ideal for the more adventurous photographer. If you love snorkelling, surfing, diving, skiing or in fact almost any kind of outdoor activity, then the D10 is the perfect companion. However, its uses are not merely for the active and sporty. Even more of the best moments of holidays, days out and special occasions can be captured and recorded, without having to worry that the camera can't cope with the conditions. Featuring dedicated Underwater, Snow and Beach modes, the Canon PowerShot D10 has been specifically designed to perform in these exact conditions.
On each of the four corners of the camera, there is a connection system that enables you to accessorise the Canon PowerShot D10 in the most convenient way for the activity you are undertaking, so you can keep hold of the camera in the most practical way. The range of accessories to be connected includes soft case, shoulder, neck and caribiner straps.
With this launch, Canon appear to be stepping up to the plate with a camera that takes on the 'go anywhere' approach of the Olympus Tough range. As the ever-widening capability of cameras continues to grow, for us as consumers it is an interesting wait to see what never-before-possible treat is in store for us next.
