A versatile prime lens designed for use with Micro Four Thirds systems, the Laowa 17mm f1.8 MFT Lens is an incredibly lightweight and flexible lens. Weighing in at just 172g and 5.1 cm long, this ultra-compact lens has a plethora of uses for both photographic and video work. It's both drone/gimbal friendly and its 17mm prime focal length provides an equivalent 34mm range in full-frame format, and it has a minimum focusing distance of just 15cm. But what about the image quality? Despite its very affordable price point, this lens is equipped with an advanced lens structure comprising of 9 elements arranged into 7 groups, including the use of Super ED element that reduces chromatic aberrations and colour fringing. It has a wide and bright maximum f1.8 aperture that provides excellent low-light performance and provides creative control of depth-of-field.

This tiny lens is packed with high-performance technology that allows this lens to easily cater to both amateur and professional use. There's an advanced lens make up that is comprised of nine glass lens elements in seven groups, including the use of a special Super ED (extra-low dispersion) glass element that helps to deliver consistently sharp and detailed images with reduced ghosting or flare. This set of lenses provides a 65-degree field of view as well as a minimum focusing distance of just 15cm, making this lens suitable for a wide range of applications.

When it comes to its aperture, the Laowa 17mm f1.8 MFT has a wide range from a maximum f1.8 aperture, to a minimum f22 aperture. The wide, fast and bright f1.8 aperture allow for enhanced dark or low-light shooting where other lenses would fail to produce high-quality images. It also provides you with enhanced control of depth-of-field and with its minimum 15cm focusing distance, you can get creative with your subject-to-background separation. Additionally, this wide seven-bladed aperture is able to produce beautiful traditional Sunstar render our of your defocused highlights.

With its Micro Four Thirds mount, this is suited to the likes of Olympus, Panasonic and Blackmagic and DJI cameras. The 17mm focal range provides a 34mm equivalent focal length on a 2x crop sensor.

Does the built-in lens hood stop the use of screw-in filters?

This lens has a 46mm filter thread and therefore can accept 46mm screw-in filters despite the built-in lens hood.
