The Neumann SBK 130 A is a sound diffraction sphere that can be attached to the front of the KM 130, KM 131 (A/D), and KM 183 (A/D) pressure microphones. This modification in the microphone shape changes the frequency response characteristic, resulting in a smooth and gradual rise in the pressure build-up of the middle and upper frequencies.

Neumann SBK 130 A Key Features:

  • Changes the frequency response characteristic of the microphone
  • Sounds coming from the front-half space are emphasised by up to2.5 dB between 2 kHz and 10 kHz
  • Sound components reaching from the rear half-space are attenuated by about 2.5 dB
  • The attenuated sound falls in the range above 5 kHz
  • Does not affect the sounds coming from the sides and the rear
  • Results in a smooth and gradual rise in the pressure build-up of the middle and upper frequencies
  • Increases the directivity in the higher frequency range
  • Increases the directivity in the higher frequency range
  • Shows a linear response in the lowest frequencies
  • Permits a greater pickup distance from the sound source
  • Features an inner diameter of 22 mm and an outer diameter of 40 mm

What's in the box?

  • 1 x Neumann SBK 130 A Sound Diffraction Sphere – Black

FAQs:

How can the sphere be used with a microphone?

The SKB 130 A sphere can simply be slipped onto the microphone until the capsule is flush with its front edge.

Which all microphones is it compatible with?

The diffraction sphere can be used with microphones that have a 22 mm diameter such as the KM 130, KM 131 (A/D), and the KM 183 (A/D).

How does it affect the frequency response?

The sphere modifies the shape of the microphone and changes the frequency response characteristic. The sounds coming from the front-half space are emphasised by up to 2.5 dB in the range of 2 kHz – 10 kHz. In contrast, the sounds coming from the rear half-space are attenuated by a maximum of 2.5 dB in the frequency range above 5 kHz.
