FAQs

Will the C5 matte box vignette on wide-angle lenses?

The C5 is designed to keep filters as close to the front element as possible, which helps prevent vignetting. It is rated to work without vignetting down to around 15mm on full-frame lenses, depending on the lens design. This makes it suitable for wide establishing shots without cropping.

Does the C5 require 15mm rails or a swing-away system?

No. The C5 clamps directly onto the lens and does not use rails or a swing-away mechanism. This keeps the setup lighter and quicker to build, which is helpful for handheld, gimbal or stripped-back cinema rigs.

Can I use both 4 x 4" and 4 x 5.65" filters?

Yes. The included trays support one 4 x 4" filter and one 4 x 5.65" filter. The trays accept standard 2mm and 4mm thick cinema filters.

Which lenses does the C5 fit out of the box?

The matte box clamps onto 95mm cinema lenses and includes adapter rings for 67mm, 72mm, 77mm and 82mm filter threads. This covers most mirrorless and compact cinema lenses without extra accessories.

Is the top flag removable or adjustable?

Yes. The carbon fibre top flag is adjustable to control flare from overhead light and can be removed when not needed, keeping the rig as small and light as possible.
