Compact pancake-style lens

Measuring 61 x 29mm and weighing just 88g, the TTArtisan AF 27mm f2.8 is a true pancake prime. On an APS-C body, this lens will feel almost weightless, shifting the balance back into the user's hands rather than out towards the lens. This is particularly beneficial for travel, landscape, and street photographers who shoot for extended periods.

The 27mm focal length gives a 56° angle of view, which falls comfortably between wide and standard, balancing more contextual shots with close-up detail. This works in unison with the f2.8 maximum aperture to provide users with the added flexibility of background separation. Combined with the 0.35m minimum focus distance, users can move in close to small objects, food, or textures and still create a shallow depth of field.

STM autofocus and subject recognition

The TTArtisan AF 27mm f2.8 also benefits from an STM stepping motor with a leading screw design, which helps keep the build compact and focusing smooth. In practise, this autofocus performance feels responsive for stills and stable for video. It also supports eye, face and animal detection on compatible bodies, making it easy to work quickly when people or pets move unpredictably. For casual video clips, the focus transitions are controlled and quiet.

Operation and handling

TTArtisan has included an aperture ring on the lens barrel, allowing users to set exposure directly without diving into menus. For photographers who prefer camera controls, the ring can be switched to “A” to hand aperture adjustments back to the body (though some cameras require changes to be made on the lens itself). The barrel is made from 5052 aviation-grade aluminium, giving it a clean, solid feel that matches modern mirrorless bodies. TTArtisan has also included a USB-C port on the rear lens cap, allowing users to update firmware.
