FAQs:
Can the DC X3 display a 4K feed from the camera?
Yes. It accepts up to DCI/UHD 4K30 over HDMI or 3G-SDI. The monitor itself displays in 1080p, but the loop-through ports pass the 4K signal on to another device without scaling. This input and loop output is handy when you’re feeding a director’s monitor or a recorder downstream.
How bright is 2000 nits in real use?
The 2000 nits brightness is enough to stay readable in the open sun. It becomes more legible with the addition of the sun hood, but the screen retains contrast well and does not wash out when tilted up. For handheld or gimbal work outdoors, it’s noticeably easier to judge focus than on a standard 500-800 nit panel.
Does it support custom LUTs?
Yes. You can load LUTs via the SD card slot or USB port. Once stored, you can toggle them on or off in the monitoring menu. It’s useful when matching cameras or previewing a preferred grade on set, especially for skin tones and contrast placement.
What image-assist tools are available?
The monitor provides waveform, histogram, peaking, zebras and audio meters. These are laid out cleanly on the touchscreen, so you can bring up or dismiss an overlay quickly without diving into deep menus. The waveform is accurate enough to set exposure reliably.
Can I monitor audio directly through headphones?
Yes. The 3.5mm headphone port mirrors the incoming signal, providing a clean monitoring feed. It’s useful when cage components block the camera’s port or when you want audio checks from a more convenient position on the rig.
How does the DC X2 differ from the DC X3?
The DC X2 and DC X3 share the same 6-inch 1080p touchscreen and overall monitoring tools, but the key distinction lies in connectivity. The DC X2 offers HDMI input and loop-out, while the DC X3 adds full 3G-SDI support alongside HDMI, making it more suitable for longer cable runs or broadcast-style rigs. Beyond 3G-SDI support, both deliver 2000-nit brightness, LUT support and the same general operating experience.
