The Zoom R8 offers 8 tracks for playback and recording (up to 2 tracks can be recorded at the same time) in full fidelity WAV format. This makes it perfect for use as a musical sketchpad as well for professional production. Thanks to its battery operation, you can capture your musical ideas easily and quickly even when you are out in the field. You can connect line-level sources or external mics directly to this unit or utilise the integrated stereo microphone pair for minimal setup. Moreover, instruments like bass or electric guitar can also be plugged right into the Zoom R8. After your multitrack recording is completed, you can use its internal mixer, complete with panning, equalisation, real faders, and 140+ built-in DSP effects to produce a stereo mix with studio-quality sound.

Moreover, it allows you to create your own custom samples and loops from recorded audio tracks. Time-stretching and quantisation can be applied to ensure excellent synchronisation. 3 playback modes are available for each pad (1Shot, Gate, and Repeat), and the onboard audio sequencer enables step entry when absolute precision is needed. Also, its multitrack recorder is integrated with the rhythm machine and pad sampler, so you can accommodate a huge range of production styles.

Is the Zoom R8 be powered by batteries or an adapter?

Just 4 AA batteries—either rechargeable NiMH or alkaline—are required for power. Even during continuous recording, the battery life is more than 5 hours when using alkaline batteries. Alternatively, the supplied AD-17 AC adapter can be used to power the Zoom R8 from any standard wall socket. This unit can also be powered via USB when connected to a PC.

Can I apply the effects during mixdown or recording, or can I use them for playback only?

Effects can be applied during mixdown and recording or can be used for playback only. The Zoom R8 provides over 140 studio-quality DSP effects including send-return effects like reverb and chorus/delay and insert effects like equalisation/dynamics processing. Moreover, there are bass amp, guitar amp, and mic preamp models and effects specially created for use on vocals and stereo instruments like electronic keyboards.

Can I import a stereo WAV file onto two tracks via USB?

The Zoom is designed with a 2x2 interface that enables you to send two tracks in and two tracks out via USB.
