It records Blackmagic RAW with simultaneous HD proxies, captures full-sensor 4K through 12K without cropping, and gives crews a flexible camera platform that can transition from controlled narrative work to demanding live workflows without changing how the image feels.

12K sensor and large format

The URSA Cine 12K LF 100G centres on a large-format 35.64 x 23.32mm RGBW sensor. This impressive resolution is the selling point, but the real attraction is what it gives you on set and in post: more detail to work with, more freedom to crop or reframe, and a smoother path to multiple deliverables without the image failing. Because the camera can record in 12K, 9K, 8K, and 4K using the full sensor area, you keep the same field of view as with your chosen lens, which makes it easier to hold shot design together across different finishing formats.

Dynamic range, colour and image control

The 16-stop dynamic range gives you room where it counts, especially in bright exteriors, contrast-heavy interiors, and scenes that need a gentler roll-off through the highlights. That extra latitude is not just there for the grade later. It also gives you more confidence when conditions shift quickly, and you still need the image to hold together cleanly. Blackmagic’s colour science, combined with Blackmagic RAW, helps preserve natural skin tones and subtle tonal separation, so the camera is not only technically strong on paper but also easier to shape into a polished, cinematic image in real use.

Built for modern production

The URSA Cine 12K LF 100G is built for productions where the footage needs to move quickly from set into post. Blackmagic RAW gives you the grading flexibility you want from a camera at this level, whilst the simultaneous HD proxy files make it easier for editors to start cutting straight away. That is especially useful on fast-turnaround jobs or shoots with remote teams, because post-production can begin while the camera is still recording. In practice, it makes the camera easier to fit into real commercial, long-form, and broadcast-minded workflows without slowing everything down.

Cinema body with live IP capability

One of the cine camera’s additional strengths is its ability to bridge cinema and live production. The 100G Ethernet connection supports SMPTE 2110 IP workflows, along with streaming, camera control, Blackmagic Cloud uploads, and high-speed file access. That gives the camera a much broader range of capabilities than a typical digital cinema body. For some users, that means one camera can move between narrative, concert, studio, and broadcast-style environments while still delivering the depth, colour, and overall image discipline you would expect from a full-scale cinema platform.

Production-ready kit

The Blackmagic URSA Cine 12K LF 100G arrives with the accessories that help turn the camera into a practical working setup rather than just a camera body in isolation. The included 8TB Media Module gives you the capacity to record high-resolution Blackmagic RAW for extended periods, a real advantage on long shooting days when media swaps can interrupt the pace of a setup. The top handle and Top Rod Mount make the camera easier to rig and carry, while the Baseplate 19 gives you a solid starting point for studio builds, support systems, and lens accessories. A B-Mount battery plate and 24V power supply are also included, making it easier to power the camera with multiple options.

FAQs

What kind of productions is the Blackmagic URSA Cine 12K LF 100G best suited to?

This camera suits high-end narrative, commercial, branded, studio, and live IP productions that require a large-format image with robust post-production flexibility. The 12K sensor gives you room for finishing, reframing, and multiple deliverables, while the 100G Ethernet connection makes it far more adaptable than a conventional cinema body. It is the kind of camera that makes sense when image quality is important, but workflow and integration matter just as much.

What are the practical benefits of Blackmagic RAW on this camera?

Blackmagic RAW keeps the sensor data flexible, so exposure, colour, and tonal decisions can be refined later without the footage feeling brittle. That gives colourists more room to work and helps productions protect highlight and shadow detail more effectively than heavily baked-in codecs. At the same time, the files are still manageable enough for real-world post pipelines, which is why the format works well on a camera designed for both quality and speed.

Why does full-sensor recording matter at different resolutions?

Full-sensor recording allows you to switch between 12K, 9K, 8K, and 4K without changing your lens's field of view. In practice, this makes lens choices easier to manage and keeps framing more consistent when different versions of a project need different finishing resolutions. It is especially useful on productions where you want the same visual character across cinema, broadcast, and digital platforms.

How useful are the built-in ND filters and OLPF in shooting?

These features make a real difference to day-to-day camera handling. The internal IR ND filters let you react quickly to changing light while keeping your preferred aperture and shutter settings, which is far easier than reaching for external filtration every time conditions shift. The optical low-pass filter helps reduce moiré and aliasing from fabrics, fine textures, and LED sources, so the image stays cleaner in situations that can trip up very sharp, high-resolution cameras.

What does the 100G Ethernet connection add beyond standard camera networking?

The 100G Ethernet connection makes the camera much more flexible in a modern production environment. Alongside fast file access and cloud-based workflows, it supports SMPTE 2110 IP video, camera control, and streaming, allowing the camera to integrate more naturally into studio and live production setups. For crews working across different kinds of jobs, this makes the camera easier to justify, as it can do more than a single-purpose cinema body.

Does the Blackmagic URSA Cine 12K LF 100G support different lens mounts?

Yes. The URSA Cine platform supports interchangeable PL, LPL, EF, and B4 mounts, giving the camera a much broader appeal across cinema and broadcast work. This kit includes an installed PL mount and also includes an EF mount with screws, so you can start with a more traditional cinema lens setup or switch to EF glass when the job calls for it. That added flexibility makes the package easier to fit into mixed rental stock, owner-operator kits, and productions that do not always use the same lens system.
