The new XDCAM PXW-Z90, NXCAM HXR-NX80 and Handycam FDR-AX700 are equipped with Sony’s Fast Hybrid Autofocus system
Sony has today unveiled a selection of new palm camcorders designed to appeal to filmmakers across the spectrum, from enthusiast to professional.
The XDCAM PXW-Z90, NXCAM HXR-NX80 and Handycam FDR-AX700 all feature Sony’s Fast Hybrid AF system, which uses 273 phase-detection AF points covering approximately 84% of the shooting area. It also uses a newly developed AF algorithm, which should help provide pin-point accurate autofocusing for shooting 4K video.
The cameras use a 1.0-type stacked Exmor RS CMOS image sensor and all support an instant HDR workflow, allowing for the creation of HDR video with minimal post-production required.
All also feature a high-resolution OLED viewfinder with 2,359k-dots resolution, and a 3.5-inch LCD screen.
Other key features on the cameras include:
• 4K full-pixel readout without pixel binning
• Super slow-motion recording up to 960fps
• S-Log3/S-Gamut3 capabilities
• 29mm wide-angle Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* 12x optical zoom lens and 18x Clear Image Zoom
Dual memory card slots also allow for proxy recording, relay recording and simultaneous backup recording.
The PXW-Z90 and HXR-NX80 also have dual XLR audio inputs, detachable handles and access to Content Browser Mogile – a smartphone app that allows for monitoring via Wi-Fi, remote control and wireless timecode sync between multiple cameras.
The PXW-Z90 also includes XAVC-format recording at 4:2:2 10 bit (HD) and 4:2:0 8 bit (QFHD), as well as conventional broadcasting MPEG2HD9 format recording, 3G SDI connectivity for compatibility with existing broadcasting equipment, and networking functions such as compatibility with XDCAM air, the Sony cloud-based ENG subscription service.
