What’s new?

The V1, Canon’s all-in-one video-first compact camera, takes up a unique position in the PowerShot series to cater to the ever-evolving world of content creation. Like its predecessors, the PowerShot G7X Mark III and the PowerShot V10, the V1 has a fixed lens. This 16-50mm f2.8-4.5 lens now has a built-in 3-stop ND filter, the first of the V1’s new features supporting hassle-free yet high-quality shooting.

Introducing a new 1.4-inch sensor to the PowerShot line, the V1 sets itself apart. While the V10 and G7X Mark III both have smaller, 1.0-inch sensors, the V1’s larger sensor supports 22.3-megapixel RAW and CRAW images, 4K/60P cropped video, and 4K/30P full-width video recording oversampled from 5.7K. Thanks to a built-in fan, it’s possible to record in 4K/30p for over two hours without fear of overheating, a significant improvement on the hour recording limit of the V10.

The V1 also sees improvements in adopting the Dual Pixel CMOS AF system from high-end, interchangeable-lens cameras like the EOS R6 Mark II for an upgrade in autofocus performance. The addition of Canon’s Multi-Accessory Shoe also lets vloggers and content creators integrate accessories like external microphones and flashguns directly with their camera to create a highly portable audio-visual system.

Whether sharing high-resolution stills or 4K video, the V1 is an accessible compact camera designed to far surpass smartphone quality while keeping content creation simple.

22MP 1.4-inch sensor for true-to-life stills and video

Canon’s V1 is a hybrid compact digital camera that brings upgraded specifications to the PowerShot series. Building on the PowerShot G7 X Mark III, the V1’s new large 22.3-megapixel Type 1.4-inch CMOS sensor is similar to a micro-four-thirds sensor but has a wider 3:2 aspect ratio. It has around twice the area of 1.0-inch sensors typically found in compact cameras. This sensor provides sharper quality and improved sensitivity to capture finer details and more accurate colours in still images. Faster readout speeds for reduced rolling shutter, better low-light performance, and improved noise control elevate your content while maintaining a compact form factor.

Dual Pixel CMOS AF and 30fps continuous shooting

The PowerShot V1 features Dual Pixel CMOS AF for PowerShot, a first in the series, for consistent, fast, and accurate autofocus while capturing images and video. Offering the ability to maintain focus over a large area alongside advanced subject and eye detection (Human/Animals) seen on the EOS R7, the dual pixel AF keeps the camera focused even when tracking fast-moving subjects like animals or children.

For high-speed shooting, the V1’s mechanical shutter lets you freeze rapid action with a maximum speed of 1/2000 second, ideal for wildlife, sports, action, and flash photography. You can also set the V1 to electronic shutter mode with a maximum speed of 1/16000 second to focus on depth of field control or access noise-free capture for quiet environments. The electronic shutter supports 30fps continuous burst shooting to photograph fast-moving subjects, like children or animals, in sharp clarity. Using High-Speed Continous + mode, burst shooting is optimised to capture the best moment possible.

Fixed ultra-wide-angle zoom lens

The PowerShot V1 has an integrated 16-50mm (35mm equivalent) ultra-wide-angle zoom lens. It provides convenience and flexibility for capturing everything from dynamic landscapes to dramatic portraits without changing cameras or lenses. When recording video, the focal length is 17-52mm (35mm equivalent). The lens has a large f2.8-4.5 maximum aperture for excellent low-light performance and depth of field control, ensuring you can shoot video or stills indoors and outdoors. In 1.4x crop mode, the lens’s standard zoom range shifts to around 23-71mm for further composition options.

Cinematic 4K, shake-free footage on the move

As a video-first camera, the Canon PowerShot V1 brings stand-out, 18.7-megapixel, high-resolution video capture to the PowerShot series. Its large sensor enables up to 4K/60P video recording from a 1.4x cropped region or 4K/30P full-width video oversampled from 5.7K for accurate colour reproduction and cinematic clarity. You can also record FHD at 120p for enhanced slow-motion effects. Canon Log 3 captures 4:2:2 10-bit video for higher dynamic range and greater flexibility in post-production. Thanks to a cooling fan that dissipates heat from the engine, the V1 has extended recording times even at 4K 30p, allowing you to film content or stream over extended periods.

The lens’ optical IS and electronic image stabilisation combine to minimise camera shake. This real-time compensation provides smooth results when shooting while walking or shooting handheld. A Subject-Tracking IS function ensures the primary subject remains in the frame for consistent composition when recording a moving subject while movie digital IS provides enhanced stability when recording on the go.

In-camera video production features

Designed for video enthusiasts and creators, the PowerShot V1 features a wide range of in-camera functions that support production-quality video creation. Users can activate the built-in 3-stop ND filter to control exposure when shooting outdoors or in bright conditions. Built-in Colour Filters provide instant professional-grade colour effects to convey tone or match your shooting style, minimising the need for post-production colour grading.

The camera also has a tally lamp to indicate when it is recording and Timecode to synchronise audio and video recordings. A microphone jack allows you to use external audio equipment to record higher-quality audio, while a headphone jack provides options for monitoring. Other useful features to fine-tune results include a Zebra display to show exposure levels, MF peaking to highlight in-focus areas when focusing manually, and HDR PQ for more control over brightness levels.

Share and stream with extensive connectivity

Multiple connectivity options make the PowerShot V1 suitable for high-resolution video calls, live streaming, and instant sharing. With a USB-C connection, you can live stream directly to a PC or improve the quality of your video calls. Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enable fast wireless transfers to your smartphone wherever you have a connection and access to the Canon Camera Connect App for remote control and editing. The V1 is compatible with automatic cloud upload via Cloud Integration and image.canon to access images and videos across devices. Such broad connectivity supports a fast and accessible production process for content creators backing up their work or posting on social media.

Compact and comfortable for on-the-go shooting

Canon’s PowerShot V1 is a compact camera built for vloggers. Its hardware features enable comfortable shooting without sacrificing quality. A built-in grip offers comfortable handling, while a fully articulating vari-angle 3-inch screen lets you monitor shooting from high and low angles or while filming yourself. The hot shoe improves production quality without additional wires, maintaining a comfortable, portable shooting setup.

Canon HG-100TBR Tripod Grip

Included with the PowerShot V1 Premium Vlogger Kit, the Canon Tripod Grip HG-100TBR has been designed to help you capture steady and level video or stills using your compact system camera. The tripod comes with a detachable Canon BR-E1 Remote that will control the shutter, zoom, movie recording and the autofocus from a distance; or, whilst you are using the grip as a selfie stick or vlogging tool. The head can rotate and tilt and in doing so will give you great flexibility and versatility in your shooting.
