High-Quality Optics and Stunning Views

The StarSense Explorer Telescope features a large 10-inch Newtonian reflector optical tube with good light-gathering ability. It noticeably brings out the details in celestial objects and allows you to observe sharp, bright views. The mirror surfaces have optical coatings of XLT to visibly increase the light output and contrast for better imagery. The low-expansion optical glass construction of the mirror ensures the best image quality under changing environmental conditions. The telescope also comes with a high-quality Crayford focuser for smooth and precise movements without focus shifting. The thumbscrew allows you to lock in the sharpest focus.

StarSense Sky Recognition Technology

The telescope uses patented StarSense Sky Recognition technology, enabling the connected smartphone to determine exactly where the telescope is pointed. The Lost in Space Algorithm (LISA) is technology used by satellites in orbit for orientation and the same is used in the telescope to help the smartphone application match detected star patterns to the internal database.

Compatible with Modern Smartphones

It works with your smartphone to analyze star patterns and locate the position of the telescope in the night sky. It can be used with most modern smartphones, including Android devices and iOS devices (iPhone 6 and up). The phone can be placed in the StarSense dock and communicates through the StarSense Explorer application that generates a list of visible celestial objects. The bullseye turns green as the selected object is ready to be viewed in the eyepiece.

Sturdy Altazimuth Base

The high-quality Altazimuth base with a large diameter provides a sturdy foundation for the telescope. The Dobsonian base features large altitude bearings with variable tensioning, braces on side panels, and Teflon azimuth bearings for additional stability. It provides a smooth up-and-down motion and the integrated panning knob provides a stern grip for positioning the StarSense. There is an integrated altitude “brake” system to adjust the tension along the altitude axis for a smooth motion.

Charges Smartphones

The Celestron StarSense Explorer allows you to enhance the setup by adding a separately purchased PowerTank Glow 5000 to it. This 2-in-1 accessory has a USB power bank that is capable of charging your devices in the field. The two ports at the front of the telescope dock provide a convenient location for charging the phone and are compatible with the PowerTank Glow 5000.
