Expanded DJI Mini 3 Pro (DJI RC) Key Features:
If you’re acquainted with this drone’s predecessor then you’ll clearly see the complete design overhaul. The DJI Mini 3 Pro’s optimised redesign allows you to get more out of every flight. The body, while still mini and weighing less than 249g, features larger propellers and an aerodynamic body tilt. The drone is foldable and so compact that it's impressively easy to pack it away and/or carry it along with you on excursions.
With the drone’s streamlined design and its ultra-lightweight, upgraded DJI Mini 3 Pro Intelligent Flight Battery, you’ll be able to have extended flight times of up to 34 minutes on a single charge. Should that not be enough, you can upgrade to the Intelligent Flight Battery Plus and that flight time can be further expanded to 47 minutes.
Finally, the Mini 3 Pro is equipped with a reimagined gimbal that is designed to offer a wider rotation range for low-angle shots and DJI’s True Vertical Shooting.
Yet another area of improvement is its obstacle sensing system. Fully upgraded to support active obstacle sensing and stable video transmission, the Mini 3 Pro is without a doubt DJI’s safest Mini drone yet.
Its equipped with Tri-Directional Obstacle Sensing. This system incorporates forward, backward, and downward dual vision sensors that combined with the physical redesign allow for a wider sensing range and therefore, enhanced flight safety. In addition, the drone features Advanced Pilot Assistance Systems (APAS 4.0) that can detect objects in your drone’s path in real-time - designed for avoiding obstacles in challenging environments.
Aiding your flight is DJI’s next-level video transmission system - DJI O3. This advanced system provides consistent, super-clear and crisp 1080p/30fps live feed at distances of up to 12 km. This means you’ll be able to clearly see what your drone is seeing, increasing flight safety.
A massive improvement for the Mini 3 Pro comes in the form of its professional-level optical flexibility. From its 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor that features dual native ISO and supports direct output of HDR footage, you’ll be able to capture incredible levels of detail, dynamic range and image data.
Its bigger 2.4μm pixels are capable of 48MP RAW photos and with an aperture ratio of f1.7, the camera system offers exceptional image quality and more light to enter the lens - producing more true-to-life images, even in low-light conditions.
Shooting up to 4K/60fps or down to dramatic 1080p/120fps slow-motion video, the Mini 3 Pro is a clear demonstration of next-level drone video capabilities. Furthermore, the drone features a D-Cinelike Colour mode that provides more visual information, offering you richer colour and more flexibility when editing.
DJI has made it easy to access the entire suite of creative shooting options that the Mini 3 Pro features. Easily located and operated, the drone features the likes of Timelapse, Panorama and 4x digital zoom. But there are three notable additions to this iteration.
First up is True Vertical Shooting. Thanks to the physical redesign of the drone, you can quickly switch between landscape and portrait in seconds. The camera gimbal rotates 90° meaning you won’t compromise on image quality. This is a perfect addition to instant social-media content.
Secondly, and further increasing versatility and shot precision, is FocusTrack. This suite includes ActiveTrack 4.0, Spotlight 2.0, and Point of Interest 3.0 - all of which are designed to help you capture and produce the best content possible.
Finally, is MasterShots. This is a unique system that has been specifically designed for beginners to aerial photography. It’s as simple as picking your subject and the Mini 3 Pro will seamlessly perform a sequence of professional manoeuvres and generate a short cinematic video. Even if you’re a pro, this feature is valuable to all levels of user.
The DJI RC
Unlike the standard DJI RC-NC1, the DJI RC frees up your phone with a large, bright and high-quality built-in screen. Free up your phone with DJI RC. This lightweight remote controller has been designed to help you save battery on your phone and with the DJI Fly App pre-installed, you can focus on your flying and capturing the best shots possible.
Know the rules!
The UK’s drone rules are based on the risk of the flight – where you fly, the proximity to other people, and the size and weight of your drone. Any drone with a camera will require an Operator ID, regardless of weight. However, an additional Flyer ID is required for drones of 250g and over.
Other qualifications are still needed for commercial drone use, and even then, this doesn't mean you can fly your drone anywhere. Ensure you know the rules and consult the Drone Code before you fly; if you want to fly commercially, you must take the PfCO CAA exam (Permission for Commercial Operations).
Why we love the DJI Mini Pro 3:
Our favourite thing about this drone is its ability to take excellent images at an affordable price.
The 48MP sensor allows you to capture super-detailed stills as well as 4K 60p video and 120fps in 1080p.
It’s tiny, regulatory-friendly and small enough to pack away in your kit bag. The fact it’s regulatory friendly means it’s great if you haven’t owned a drone before and/or you don’t have a drone license
The DJI RC in this kit provides a large, bright, high-quality built-in screen that can be used instead of your phone. It frees up your phone so your battery is conserved, and you’ll have a bigger, better image while you fly. There are other options with different controls, or if you’re upgrading and already have a controller - there’s that option too.
Who is this designed for?
This drone is definitely a good choice for content creators - it's so small that you can easily bring along your standard camera gear and the drone - doubling your creative output options for social media and your clients alike.
It’s not just for those who make content for a living. No, you could easily learn how to fly this drone and take it on holiday a create lasting memories (that being said, make sure to familiarise yourself with the Drone Code).
You should, however, consider your options if you are seeking a drone for high-level production. In spite of the Mini 3 Pro’s excellent image quality, the Mavic series offers higher and more versatile image quality, as well as improved performance, such as better wind resistance.
Is it better?
The Mini 3 Pro boasts massive upgrades over the Mini 2 in both image and video quality. The jump from 21MP to 48MP dramatically increases the image quality for stills.
A significant upgrade is the ability to switch from landscape to portrait without loss of quality (cropping) or losing information on the left/right side of the shot. The obvious benefit here is for content creators who can content platform-specific content.
The Mini 3 Pro offers longer, safer flights. Its upgraded battery will keep you flying for longer and the drone features the same Tri-Directional Obstacle Sensing seen in the Mavic 3 - this means you’re less likely to crash!
