What’s new?

The Osmo Pocket 4 is the next evolution in DJI’s Osmo Pocket series, retaining the familiar 1-inch CMOS format and compact 3-axis gimbal while improving core imaging performance. It increases slow-motion recording from 4K/120fps to 4K/240fps, adds up to 14 stops of dynamic range in Normal and D-Log, and replaces D-Log M with 10-bit D-Log in standard Video mode. ActiveTrack 7.0 and intelligent autofocus expand subject tracking, while 2x lossless zoom in supported modes allows tighter framing without reducing detail.

Handling has also been refined with a series of upgrades. The 2-inch 1000-nit rotatable OLED screen still enables quick switching between vertical and horizontal shooting, but the added zoom and custom buttons reduce reliance on menus during recording. DJI has built in 107GB of internal storage, with USB 3.1 transfer speeds up to 800 MB/s for faster offloading. Wi-Fi 6 also improves wireless performance, while four-channel audio, built-in timecode, and external video output give the Osmo Pocket 4 greater creative control, pushing the Osmo Pocket series closer toward production-focused content creation.

Sensor and imaging performance

The Osmo Pocket 4 pairs a 1-inch CMOS sensor with a 20mm equivalent f2.0 lens to balance exposure and depth-of-field control in a compact vlog-friendly form. This combination delivers sharper results in low light and softer background separation when shooting closer to your subject. The lens focuses from 0.2m to infinity, allowing you to move between close subjects and wider scenes. As a fixed lens system, imaging performance remains consistent across different distances, making it easier to keep shooting without frequent adjustments.

The camera also records up to 14 stops of dynamic range in Normal and D-Log, preserving more detail in both bright and dark areas of the same frame, and supports still image capture at up to 37MP. Highlights such as skies or reflections retain more information, while darker areas retain more visible detail before fading into black. 10-bit D-Log recording captures a wider range of tonal data, giving you more control when adjusting colour and exposure in post.

Video formats and audio capture

The Osmo Pocket 4 supports 4K slow-motion recording at up to 240 fps for controlled, high-quality playback. Standard video recording includes 4K, 3K vertical, and 1080p at up to 60 fps, making it easy to shoot in both horizontal and vertical formats without having to reframe later. Alongside standard recording, the camera includes Hyperlapse, Timelapse, and Motionlapse modes for time-based capture. Panorama also captures wider scenes in a single image, while SpinShot rotates the gimbal for controlled camera movement, giving you more ways to shape how motion and composition are captured directly in-camera.

For audio capture, the Osmo Pocket 4 features a three-microphone array that captures onboard audio at 48kHz, 16-bit, allowing you to record ambient sound and speech directly without additional equipment. It also supports direct connection to DJI Mic transmitters, enabling four-channel audio recording, separating sources for greater control in post. Spatial audio and audio zoom further link sound capture to framing, with spatial audio adding a sense of direction when listening on headphones, and audio zoom adjusting sound capture based on zoom level to focus more on your subject.

Stabilisation, tracking and autofocus

The 3-axis gimbal stabilises pitch, roll, and yaw movement, physically compensating for movement as you shoot. This feature helps stabilise footage without cropping into the frame, maintaining the intended field of view during handheld recording. ActiveTrack 7.0 works with the gimbal to keep your subject in the frame, even when using up to 4x zoom. Tracking modes such as Spotlight Follow and Dynamic Framing control how the subject is positioned, either keeping it fixed or adjusting the composition as it moves.

Intelligent autofocus keeps your subject sharp by adjusting focus based on its position within the frame. Subject Lock Tracking allows you to tap and switch focus between subjects directly on the screen, while Registered Subject Priority keeps attention on a selected subject when supported. By linking focus behaviour to subject selection, the system provides more predictable results when multiple subjects are present or when movement occurs across different distances.

Display and controls

As a pocket-sized camera designed for one-handed use, DJI has optimised the user interface to suit quick, direct adjustments. A 2-inch 1000-nit OLED touchscreen rotates to switch between vertical and horizontal shooting, making it easy to reframe your footage without diving into menus. The 5D joystick and dedicated zoom/custom buttons provide direct control over key functions while shooting. The joystick allows quick access to back navigation, gimbal recentering, and camera flipping through single, double, and triple presses. The zoom button switches between 1x, 2x, and 4x views, while the custom button gives fast access to preset settings. Together, these controls offer a more tactile, intuitive experience, making it easier for solo operators to capture high-quality content.

Connectivity and output

For content creators working across platforms, built-in connectivity plays a central role in capturing, transferring, and sharing footage. Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4 support wireless control, transfer, and connection to external devices, allowing users to preview footage, transfer files, or control the camera remotely without a wired connection. Thanks to the 4K DisplayPort output and 1080p Wi-Fi livestreaming, footage can be viewed, recorded, or broadcast directly to external devices and platforms. Built-in timecode also helps keep clips aligned across longer recordings, making it easier to synchronise footage during editing. Together, these features make the camera easier to integrate into structured setups, while maintaining the compact, ready-to-shoot form factor the Pocket series is known for.

FAQs:

Does the DJI Osmo Pocket 4 feature gesture controls?

Yes, the Osmo Pocket 4 includes gesture control for hands-free operation. When enabled, you can use a palm gesture to start or stop ActiveTrack, or a V gesture to take a photo or begin recording. Gestures need to be performed within approximately 2 metres of the camera and within clear view of the lens for reliable recognition.

How good is the battery life on the DJI Osmo Pocket 4?

Battery performance depends on recording settings and usage, particularly when shooting high-resolution video or using wireless features. Under standard conditions, the Osmo Pocket 4 provides up to 240 minutes of operating time when recording at 1080p in 16:9. Charging reaches approximately 80% in 18 minutes and 100% in 32 minutes, with LED indicators showing progress at each stage.

What is the gimbal’s mechanical range for pan and tilt?

The gimbal provides a controllable range of -235° to 58° for pan, -120° to 70° for tilt, and -45° to 45° for roll, defining the limits within which movement can be actively adjusted during shooting. The full mechanical range extends beyond this, spanning -240° to 63° for pan, -180° to 98° for tilt, and -220° to 63° for roll.

Does the DJI Osmo Pocket 4 have creative presets or filters?

Yes, the Osmo Pocket 4 includes a set of in-camera and app-based tools for adjusting image style and portrait rendering. Film Tone presets let you apply predefined colour profiles to recreate classic or stylised looks directly in-camera, without post-processing. In-camera Beautify controls allow adjustment of skin smoothness, brightness, and tone, helping to refine how subjects appear while maintaining a natural result. For further adjustment, Glamour Effects can be applied through the DJI Mimo app.

How do I transfer files from the DJI Osmo Pocket 4?

Files can be transferred either wirelessly or via cable. When connected to the DJI Mimo app, you can preview and download footage directly to a mobile device, as well as share content to social platforms. For a wired transfer, connect the camera to a computer using a USB-C cable, then select “Transfer File: USB” on the camera. Files can then be copied directly to your computer. The camera cannot record while transferring files, and it is recommended to wait for a safe removal prompt before disconnecting.

Can I expand the storage on the DJI Osmo Pocket 4?

Yes, the Osmo Pocket 4 includes 107GB of built-in storage and also supports expansion via microSD cards. For consistent recording performance, DJI recommends U3 A2 V30-rated microSDXC cards, including Lexar Silver Plus models from 64GB to 1TB, and Kingston CANVAS GO! Plus models across the same capacity range. These cards provide the sustained write speeds required for high-resolution video recording.

How do I update the firmware?

Firmware updates are handled through the DJI Mimo app. When a new version is available, a prompt will appear within the app, allowing you to start the update process directly. To update, connect the camera to the app via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, follow the on-screen instructions, and ensure the connection remains stable throughout. If an update fails, restarting both the camera and the app, then reconnecting, will usually resolve the issue.
