The DJI SDR Transmission Combo 2 includes two compact, TX/RX-switchable wireless video transceivers for a transmitter-and-receiver setup with DCI 4K/60fps 10-bit HDR transmission. Compared with its predecessor, the upgraded Auto Channel 2.0 improves frequency coordination across multiple groups, while the range now reaches 4 km. With H.265 encoding up to 50 Mbps and latency as low as 35 ms, it suits production crews needing reliable monitoring with responsive camera and gimbal control on complex sets.

DJI SDR Transmission Combo 2 Key Features:

  • Includes two wireless video transceivers for transmitter and receiver configuration
  • Each transceiver switches between TX and RX for flexible deployment
  • Single transmitter feeds 8 receivers while retaining remote camera control
  • Multi-group operation supports 5 transmitters and 40 receivers simultaneously
  • Auto Channel 2.0 coordinates frequencies as interference conditions change
  • Transmits DCI 4K/60fps 10-bit HDR video over HDMI or DP
  • H.265 encoding reaches 50 Mbps for detailed high-resolution monitoring feeds
  • Transmission reaches 4 km under specified CE test conditions
  • Latency drops to 35 ms for responsive monitoring and remote commands
  • Pairing-free camera switching changes feeds without rebooting or rescanning units
  • Ronin integration combines wireless gimbal operation with camera monitoring
  • PTP control adjusts aperture, shutter speed, ISO and recording remotely
  • Ronin app provides LUT, histogram, waveform and false colour monitoring
  • USB-C connects supported Osmo cameras for remote monitoring and power
  • NP-F, USB-C PD and compatible Ronin systems provide flexible power

What’s new?

Compared with the original DJI SDR Transmission, the SDR Transmission 2 moves to a TX/RX-switchable transceiver design, so each unit can serve as either a transmitter or receiver as the setup changes. Maximum transmission distance increases to 4 km, while video quality now reaches DCI 4K/60fps instead of 1080/60fps with encoding bitrates up to 50 Mbps. Auto Channel 2.0 also uses more accurate spectrum scanning and conflict diagnostics to coordinate frequencies when multiple transmission groups operate together, reducing manual channel management on crowded sets. These upgrades make the DJI SDR Transmission 2 more adaptable to different crew configurations while providing higher-resolution monitoring over greater distances and more reliable coordination between transmission groups.

Multi-receiver monitoring and camera control

A single transmitter can send its camera feed to up to eight receivers, with remote control available for each receiver. Directors and DPs can monitor the image while operators and focus pullers adjust camera settings from separate positions on set. For larger multi-camera productions, the system supports up to five transmitters and 40 receivers operating simultaneously, while maintaining image quality up to 4K.

Automatic frequency coordination

With Channel Mode set to Auto, Auto Channel 2.0 recognises other transceivers and coordinates frequencies between connected units. Compared with the original DJI SDR Transmission system, more accurate spectrum scanning identifies interference and frequency conflicts, prompting the units to switch frequencies as conditions change. This reduces the need for manual channel management when several transmission groups operate in the same area, where competing signals can make maintaining a stable connection more difficult.

4K transmission over longer distances

DJI’s SDR Transmission 2 transmits DCI 4K/60fps 10-bit HDR video using H.265 encoding at up to 50 Mbps, preserving fine detail, tonal transitions and highlight and shadow information in the monitoring feed. DCI 4K/60fps HDR transmission requires HDMI or DP through the bottom USB-C port on the main transceiver. Maximum transmission distance reaches 4 km with one transmitter and receiver in open, unobstructed and interference-free conditions. Latency reaches as low as 35 ms, keeping the monitoring feed closely aligned with the action so focus pulls, camera adjustments and gimbal movements can be made with a responsive view of what is happening on camera.

Switchable transmitter and receiver operation

For flexible deployment, both 136g transceivers in the Combo can operate as either a transmitter or receiver, so you can reassign units when the number of cameras or monitoring positions changes. The Transmission unit provides one HDMI input/output and two USB-C ports, with the bottom connection supporting DP input/output and connections to compatible Ronin, Osmo Action and Osmo Pocket devices. The separately available Expansion Plate adds SDI I/O, while the optional Transceiver Cage provides NATO, 1/4-inch, and 3/8-inch mounting points, plus HDMI and USB-C cable clamps.

Professional monitoring and camera control

The SDR Transmission 2 provides several ways to monitor the camera feed and make adjustments away from the camera. Receivers output video to professional monitors through HDMI or DP, with SDI connectivity available through the separately sold Expansion Plate. A smartphone or tablet can connect directly to the receiver by cable for monitoring through the DJI Ronin app, which provides LUT, histogram, waveform and false colour functions for assessing the image. PTP camera control provides access to aperture, shutter speed and ISO settings, along with photo capture and video recording, while supported Sony cameras can use CEC control through Mirror Control mode.

Ronin integration and power

When paired with supported DJI stabilisers, the transceiver combines wireless monitoring with gimbal control through the Ronin ecosystem. Through the DJI Ronin app, operators can access Force Mobile, virtual joystick control and gimbal recentring, while Ronin 2 and Master Wheels provide control for larger cinema camera configurations when connected with the separately sold cables. The transceiver accepts 6.8 to 8.4V NP-F batteries or USB-C PD power (with an adapter rated 65W or above), and compatible DJI stabilisers can power the unit directly, removing the need for a separate transceiver battery.

FAQs:

How compact is the DJI SDR Transmission 2?

Each transceiver measures 76 x 61 x 25mm, excluding the antennas and Cold Shoe Adapter, and weighs approximately 136g including the antennas. Its small footprint takes up less space when mounted alongside other camera or gimbal accessories, and its low weight adds little to the overall rig. This makes it especially practical for compact camera setups where mounting space and weight must be minimal.

Which Osmo cameras can connect directly to the DJI SDR Transmission 2?

The DJI SDR Transmission 2 supports Osmo Action 6 and Osmo Pocket series models from Osmo Pocket 4 onwards. These devices connect to the transceiver via USB-C for monitoring and power. This provides a compact way to add a remote feed from smaller cameras used for sports, reality productions or positions where a larger camera rig cannot fit. Compatibility is limited to the specified Osmo models.

Does the DJI SDR Transmission 2 support SDI?

Yes, but SDI is provided through the separately sold DJI SDR Transmission 2 Expansion Plate, not the main transceiver. The Expansion Plate adds SDI input/output alongside HDMI and additional USB-C connections. It also supports SDI metadata transmission from mainstream cinema cameras, including ARRI and RED. The plate weighs around 105g, so include it when planning the complete rig.

Which DJI Ronin series products support the DJI SDR Transmission 2?

The DJI SDR Transmission 2 supports DJI RS 5, RS 4 Pro, RS 4, RS 3 Pro, Ronin 2 and Master Wheels. Ronin 2 and Master Wheels require the separately sold DJI SDR Transmission 2 Gimbal Control Cable (USB-C to 4-pin), while RS 4, RS 4 Pro and RS 3 Pro require the separately sold USB-C to CAN version. When connecting the transceiver to an RS series stabiliser, remote camera control also requires a Multi-Camera Control Cable between the gimbal and camera.

What temperatures can the DJI SDR Transmission 2 operate in?

The transceiver has a specified operating temperature range of -10°C to 40°C. The separately available Expansion Plate and Transceiver Cage carry the same operating temperature specification. This gives crews a clear temperature range to work within when preparing the system for outdoor or location production.
