The Fujifilm IS Pro is the next generation of UVIR (Ultra Violet / Infra Red) compatible DSLRs. The IS Pro utilises the same body as the FinePix S5 Pro, which achieved recognition for its excellent ergonomics, and like the S5 Pro is compatible with Nikon F mount lenses and Nikon iTTL flash systems. The IS Pro's build takes the system into a different league, using a tough, professional magnesium alloy shell and weatherproof seals. With its first-rate design, the IS Pro will be a camera truly deserving of the term 'workhorse', equally at home in the studio as on a nature assignment in a humid rainforest. The camera's shutter mechanism will be testament to its durability, as it has been tested to exceed the key benchmark of 100,000 cycles. Please note sale of this camera is subject to completion of an end-user qualification form.

FinePix IS Pro main features

Sensor

The IS Pro, utilises Fujifilm's Super CCD Pro and Real Photo Processor Pro technology to see light from the ultraviolet (UV), visible and near infrared (IR) portion of the spectrum (approx. 380nm – 1000nm)

The ultimate goal in development of Fujifilm's D-SLR cameras has been to maximise image quality through constant R & D into the Company's proprietary sensors. With the introduction six years ago of the acclaimed Super CCD, Fujifilm has moved away from increasing the pixel density in favour of image quality developments that increase the overall performance of the sensor.

The FinePix IS Pro will see the refinement of a winning formula - Fujifilm's Super CCD SR II will be updated to the new Super CCD SR Pro. Using a unique layout of twelve million paired photodiodes (6.17 million larger 'S' photodiodes for main image information, combined with 6.17 million smaller 'R' photodiodes for bright area information), the IS Pro will deliver improvements in noise, dynamic range, colour and tonality. Further improving the capability of the sensor, a new, improved low-pass filter will ensure that moiré and noise are kept to an absolute minimum.

Fuji technicians believe improvements in these key areas will be of more true value to professional photographers - the challenge is quality of information, not quantity of information.

Image quality

The redesigned Super CCD SR Pro sensor will be at the centre of the camera's performance. However, the new Real Photo Processor Pro will ensure that the information is handled in such a way to produce images that are beautifully vibrant, with colour recorded as the human eye sees it. The processor's two stages of noise reduction will deliver an impeccably clean image, and also permit light sensitivity up to ISO 3200 whilst achieving sharp, low-noise images. A new dark noise reduction process, subtracting the residual, ambient noise on the sensor from the actual exposure, helps the camera produce smooth, clean images even when long shutter speeds are used.

i-TTL Flash Exposure Metering

i-TTL Flash Exposure Metering System: photographers can take advantage of a host of creative options, and achieve outstanding results with all Nikon compatible Speedlights.

Dynamic range

The IS Pro will also afford the user much greater control over the unique image parameters that its technology provides. Six stepped dynamic range settings between 100% (normal dynamic range) and 400% (dynamic range expanded by two stops), will enable the photographer to achieve exactly the tonal feel to their images that they want. In addition, three distinct settings for the 'negative film' preset option will further enhance the customisable nature of the camera, giving portrait photographers precisely the 'look' that they wish to create.

Face Detection Technology

At the push of a button, the IS Pro's Face Detection Technology detects up to ten faces in a scene immediately after each image is captured. Photographers can zoom in and confirm facial detail, whether eyes are open or closed, focus and exposure on the IS Pro's LCD monitor.

Live image CCD preview

Fujifilm pioneered Live Image Preview. The IS Pro provides a 30 second live image CCD preview to the cameras LCD monitor directly from the imaging sensor in colour or black and white. To further improve the process, the live image preview can be digitally magnified and brightness adjusted to improve focusing accuracy or to compensate for light intensity. The video image can also be viewed on an NTSC / PAL monitor or on the PC over the cameras USB 2.0 connection directly form Fujifilm's optional HyperUtility HS-V3 software.

TIFF Format

Investigative photographers often require images produced in TIFF directly from the camera. Since most DSLR cameras today now only offer RAW as an option, the IS Pro offers an optional firmware upgrade due out later this Autumn that will support camera TIFF file formats in three resolutions. (RAW mode is not available during TIFF mode capture.)

Bar Code and Magnetic Stripe Card Reading

The IS Pro can be connected to an optional serial port bar code reader or serial port magnetic stripe card reader using the optional Nikon MC-35 GPS/Serial adapter. Alpha-numeric data read by the devices is stored in the IS Pro's image file as part of the EXIF header in JPEG, TIFF, and RAW file formats.

This data can later be recalled so that images are synched to databases using special software programs. Bar codes of drivers licenses, employee IDs, automotive VIN tags, credit cards, evidence tags, employee ID's, or any object with a bar code can be recorded directly to the camera

HS-V3 Tethered Shooting and RAW Conversion Software

Fujifilm's optional Hyper Utility Software HS-V3 version 1.1 enables tethered shooting direct to a MAC or PC, with control from the camera or computer via a USB 2.0 connection. This option significantly speeds image capture and quality verification. Its split screen mode allows photographers to fine tune the focus through a series of quick succession shots.

This feature is highly useful during very low light UV photography where Live Image Preview becomes difficult. In addition, Live Image Preview from the computer is possible via its USB connection. Using the PC Capture mode can reduce or limit the photographer's exposure to harmful UV light by placing distance between the photographer and the object being photographed. Advanced RAW file conversion to JPEG, TIFF 8 bit, and TIFF 16 bit is also provided by the HS-V3 software.
