As a high-capacity, multi-functional camera system, the GFX 100 IR is incredibly well-suited to heavy professional photographic and videographic workflows. Utilising a large CMOS sensor consisting of over 100 million pixels, the GFX 100 IR takes the crown for the highest class resolution mirrorless digital camera ever produced (as of release). Measuring approximately 55mm diagonally and having an effective 102 million pixel count, the internal CMOS sensor works hand-in-hand with the 4th generation X-Processor 4 processor. In short, this delivers industry-leading levels of image quality with an emphasis on exceptional colour reproduction and pin-point detailing, as well as full compatibility with the well-renowned GF series (G-mount) lenses.

Despite the vast pixel count, the large CMOS sensor further employs lower noise, improved dynamic range, and faster readout. With the back illuminated structure encouraging a higher amount of light accuracy and enhanced overall noise performance.

Infrared Image Capacity

The GFX 100 IR produces 100MP files with a maximum pixel dimension of 11648 x 8736, or up to 400MP when implementing the enhanced Pixel Shift Multi-Shot function. This is tailored to industrial-level users and is specifically suited to forensic, scientific, and artistic applications. In short, this actively reveals intense details within dynamic subjects and uncovers elements that are not visible to either a full spectrum camera or the human eye. Within the wide world of art, delicate brush strokes and faded artist signatures can be uncovered through intense visual analysis. For scientific and forensic applications, the GFX 100 IR could be used to reveal small discrepancies in the handwriting or printing process.

Phase-Detection AF & 5-Axis Stabilisation

As the first within the GFX System to use Fujifilm’s phase-detection AF algorithm, the GFX 100 IR is praised for its precision and speed. Adopted from the 4th generation X Series cameras (X-T3 and X-T30), this algorithm employs 3.76 million phase detection pixels - setting a new standard in AF speed and precision for large format cameras. This is most prevalent when using alongside prime lenses with an expansive set of focus elements, achieving speed improvement of up to 210% over the conventional contrast AF system.

As a general rule - the higher the pixel count, the higher the likelihood of camera shake. However, Fujifilm designed an in-body image stabilisation (IBIS) system specifically for this new 102MP large format sensor. This provides 5.5 stops of image stabilisation, when connected to the Fujifilm GF 63mm f2.8 R WR Lens.

Unique Colour Reproduction Tech

By combining the newly developed image sensor with the X-Processor 4 processing engine, the GFX 100 IR has the capacity to support 16-Bit RAW mode. The GFX 100 IR further supports 16-Bit TIFF in-camera file conversion, as well as providing ultra high 100MP+ resolution and rich colour and tonal reproduction in Film Simulation modes. To further enhance the post-production process, utilise the Smooth Skin Effect function, which automatically smooths the skin tones - a tool often used in post processing when shooting portraiture.

4K Video with 10-Bit Colour Depth

Characterised as a large format camera, the GFX 100 IR has the capacity to shoot 4K at 10 bit 4:2:0 (4:2:2 external recording via HDMI) 30fps. This is a first for large-format consumer mirrorless digital cameras employing a sensor larger than the 35mm format. When the standard 17:9 format is selected, the GFX 100 IR records with a sensor area that is larger than the vast majority of high-end cine cameras. This affords a shallow depth of field, wide tonal range, and high ISO sensitivity suited to pro-level video recording. You are also provided with enhanced detail and texturing, in addition to clearly defined shapes and lines within the frame.

The GFX 100 IR also supports the high-efficiency H.265/HEVC codec, as well as F-Log and Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) for recording HDR footage with ease. As the first model within the GFX Range to incorporate ETERNA Cinema Film Simulation mode, the GFX 100 IR facilitates high-end cine work, multi-media workflows, and creative decision making.

Enhanced Operability

The dual-LCD monitor system affords a 1.8” sub LCD monitor integrated within the top panel, as well as a 2.05” sub-monitor on the back of the GFX 100 IR body. This allows for a more uniform and continuous workflow, with key information displays such as EXIF data, histogram, and access to variable camera settings. You can, therefore, allocate information to each of the two monitors, which then allows for a de-cluttered viewfinder and overall improvements to efficiency. To match the dial-based operations of previous GFX camera systems, the GFX 100 IR utilises a Virtual Dial mode. This displays a virtual dial on the top LCD sub-monitor that can be actively rotated and adjusted via the front and rear Command Dials.

Robust Exterior Construction

As the first Fujifilm mirrorless digital camera system to incorporate an in-built vertical grip, the GFX 100 IR maintains a thinner form-factor that is comfortable and balanced in-hand. This is even when accommodating for IBIS and 2 separate batteries within the body. To further support on-location shooting, the GFX 100 IR employs weather-sealing in 95 separate locations across its entire frame. This advances the levels of dust- and moisture-resistance, which then contributes to its overall reliability and user-functionality.

High-Definition EVF System

Inherited directly from the GFX 50, the high-powered GFX 100 IR implemented a detachable EVF system that can be adjusted to varying angles alongside the EVF Tilting Adapter EVF-TL1. Utilising the highest resolution 5.76 million dot OLED panel, the GFX 100 IR’s high-definition EVF unit has a magnification ratio of 0.86x. It also contains 5 optical glass elements (including aspherical elements), and has been designed specifically to match the extreme focusing accuracy required from the 102MP CMOS sensor.
