Focal Range

The obvious star of this show is the huge 150-600mm focal range - something that has been essentially unheard of from native X-mount lenses until now. This zoom translates to an equivalent 35mm focal range of 229-914mm, enabling limitless nature and wildlife photographic opportunities, the likes of which Fuji users have been longing for. But it doesn’t stop there - this lens is compatible with both Fujifilm teleconverters (XF 1.4X TC WR and XF 2X TC WR ), and at its longest, it offers an equivalent focal length of 1828mm.

How is this possible? The lens features a highly advanced and intricate array of 24 elements arranged into 17 groups. This includes 3 ED and 4 super ED elements that help maintain edge-to-edge sharpness and image quality throughout the zoom range.

Stability

With great focal power, comes great stability. This tele-focal lens offers not only the range but is optimised to ensure each image is as good as it can be. Fuji has incorporated a powerful Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) system that provides up to five stops of stabilisation.

This powerful feature has been used to provide confidence when shooting handheld - where camera shake can ruin your photos when shooting at longer focal lengths or using slower shutter speeds. And, thanks to this system, you to shoot handheld as slow as 1/30 sec.

In addition to this, the lens features an internal zoom mechanism that maintains its length and balance throughout the focal range - something especially important when mounted on gimbal heads or tripods.

AF Performance

Designed for capturing those far away action shots of wildlife or sporting excellence, the XF 150-600mm f5.6-8 R LM OIS WR Lens is equipped with an advanced autofocus system. It’s fast, reliable and highly accurate. This is made possible thanks to its linear, motor-driven inner focusing AF system that silently renders pin-sharp images, all while eliminating focus breathing. All of this allows you to confidently freeze motion and/or maintain focus while filming your subjects.

What’s more, the lens is built to make finding and maintaining focus easy. It’s designed with easily accessed AF-ON and AF-L controls, and a dedicated focus range selector that allows you to work more effectively within specific distances.

A Mighty Construction

It wouldn’t be a Fujifilm lens without a reliable, stylish and professional construction. Not only does it have a classic Fujifilm look, but its weather-resistant construction protects it against moisture, dust, and temperatures as low as -10°C, allowing you to carry on shooting while other lenses would otherwise fail. Furthermore, the front element has a fluorine coating that helps to repel water, grease and dust, as well as making it easier to clean.

Our Review

Why we love the Fujifilm XF 150-600mm f5.6-8 R LM OIS WR Lens:

• It offers a focal range that we simply haven’t had access to from native Fujifilm lenses.
• It’s super-powerful and because it’s on an APS-C sensor, you’re getting that equivalent focal length (in 35mm) of about 914mm - that’s some major reach!
• Up to five stops of image stabilisation which just makes life so much easier. It means you can confidently shoot handheld at its maximum 600mm focal length.

Use this lens for:

• Naturally, this lens lends itself to wildlife and sports. That huge reach means you can capture true emotion and feeling from almost any subject - be it human or animal.
• From its AF system to the image stabilisation - this lens is designed in such a way that you can use it efficiently for both stills and video work.
• The powerful image stabilisation means you can you the lens handheld and still capture exceptional shots. This is of course a massive benefit if you need to change position for the best angle.

Look and feel:

• It’s bigger than the Fujifilm lenses we’re used to but those lenses don’t offer the range that this lens has - and, it only weighs 1600g!
• It zooms internally so it’ll maintain the length of the lens throughout the zoom range.
• If you’re using it handheld on past Fujifilm mirrorless camera models like the X-T4 or X-Pro3 (which you can, thanks to the image stabilisation), you might get a small weight imbalance - but it is slight. But then again, if you’re using the likes of the Fujifilm X-H2S, it’s perfectly sized and most of the weight is towards the back of the lens (towards the camera body.)

Is it better?

• We haven’t had a lens like this before so we can’t say whether it's better or not. But if we were to liken it to other XF lenses, it shares the same professional feel and construction as the entire range. It’s fast, it’s reliable and it offers a huge focal plane to play with!
