GoPro has announced the MISSION 1 PRO ILS as part of the MISSION 1 series, providing flagship image quality in a compact mirrorless body with the flexibility of a Micro Four Thirds mount. It combines a 50MP 1-inch sensor with strong low-light performance, high frame rates up to 8K60, 4K240 and 1080p960, and Open Gate recording at 8K30 and 4K120. The new GP3 processor supports leading image quality, battery runtime and thermal performance for consistent operation in demanding conditions.
New 50MP Sensor and GP3 Processor
The MISSION 1 PRO ILS uses a 50MP 1-inch sensor designed to capture more light, with larger native and fused pixels. It delivers up to 14 stops of dynamic range at the sensor, preserving detail in both shadows and highlights. Combined with the GP3 processor, the imaging pipeline maintains balanced, detailed output across varied lighting conditions. It also supports 10-bit colour capture with GP-Log2, providing greater tonal information for grading and post-production control.
The GP3 processor uses an ultra-power-efficient 5nm design, built to handle high-resolution and frame-rate demands while maintaining stable performance. It supports extended recording times and improved thermal control, allowing the camera to operate consistently in demanding conditions. The processor also includes an AI-driven neural unit, which contributes to image processing, particularly in low light, helping maintain detail and overall image quality.
Resolution and frame rates
The camera supports high-resolution video, recording 8K at up to 30 frames per second, 4K at up to 120 frames per second, and 1080p at up to 240 frames per second. It also enables non-burst 1080p recording at 480 frames per second. These frame rates support slow-motion capture from 2x at 8K to 32x at 1080p, with additional options for extended slow-motion across different resolutions.
Open Gate recording
Open gate recording is available at 8K30 and 4K120, using the full 4:3 sensor area. Capture across the entire sensor provides added flexibility when reframing and exporting to different aspect ratios. The MISSION 1 supports 4K120 open gate, while the PRO model extends this to higher resolutions.
Processing, runtime and thermal control
The GP3 processor improves power efficiency, supporting longer runtimes and stable thermal performance. It enables the camera to handle high-resolution and high-frame-rate shooting while maintaining consistent operation. The camera is capable of extended recording, delivering over 5 hours at 1080p30 and over 3 hours at 4K30 on a single charge using the Enduro 2 battery. This design, combined with fast-charging battery support and compatibility with earlier Enduro batteries, supports reliable performance in demanding environments where uninterrupted recording is required.
50MP photos
The MISSION 1 PRO ILS captures still images at up to 50 megapixels, using the full capability of its 1-inch sensor and GP3 processing. It supports RAW capture for maximum detail, alongside processed HDR output using scene detection in SuperPhoto Mode. With burst shooting up to 60 frames per second and up to 14 stops of dynamic range at the sensor, it maintains consistent detail and tonal balance across both single frames and rapid sequences.
Professional audio capture
The MISSION 1 PRO ILS records audio with a four-microphone array, capturing stereo sound with improved wind-noise reduction. It also supports 32-bit float recording, helping prevent clipping in unpredictable sound levels. For wireless setups, Bluetooth 5.3 enables connection to compatible devices via hands-free audio profiles for higher-fidelity recording.
Design and capture modes
The MISSION 1 PRO ILS includes a wider 159° field of view, a larger OLED rear display and redesigned buttons for easier handling. The camera also provides 13 capture modes, each tuned for specific shooting conditions using scene detection and image processing, or can be set to manual control. It is also compatible with GoPro Labs, giving access to a wide range of additional settings and controls for more advanced configuration.
MISSION 1 PRO ILS
The MISSION 1 PRO ILS uses the same 50MP 1-inch sensor and GP3 processor as the standard model, but adds an interchangeable-lens system with a Micro Four Thirds mount. This allows it to work with a wide range of lenses, expanding the camera’s configuration options. It also supports in-camera HyperSmooth video stabilisation with compatible rectilinear prime lenses, helping maintain steady footage. The body retains the same durable, weather-resistant construction associated with the series, designed to handle demanding environments while remaining compact.
Optional accessories
The MISSION 1 series cameras can be built into a more complete setup using a range of purpose-designed accessories. The Wireless Mic System adds reliable 24-bit/48kHz audio with compact transmitters that clip or attach magnetically, while the redesigned Media Mod expands connectivity with multiple 3.5mm ports, HDMI output, and adjustable microphone patterns for better control over recorded sound.
For handling, the Point-and-Shoot Grip and Volta 2 battery grip improve stability and extend runtime, while the Enduro 2 battery and dual charger keep the camera running through longer sessions. ND filters give you direct control over motion blur and exposure, and Light Mod 2 adds a small, mountable light source when working in low light. For more demanding conditions, the protective housing extends waterproofing well beyond the camera’s native sealing, and the vertical mount adapter simplifies shooting for social formats.
