The Luna Ultra pushes the gimbal camera category beyond its traditional wide-angle limitations. Co-engineered with Leica, it combines a 1-inch 8K main camera with a dedicated telephoto lens, giving creators five focal lengths, lossless 6x zoom, and up to 12x reach from a single device. Rather than being limited to a fixed perspective, Luna Ultra can move between expansive scenes, portraits, close-up detail, and distant subjects without changing equipment. Combined with 3-axis stabilisation and a compact 233g design, it delivers a level of optical versatility rarely seen in a camera this portable.

The detachable OLED touchscreen is one of the camera’s most distinctive innovations, enabling remote monitoring, camera control, and audio capture from up to 20 metres away. Supporting it all is a Triple AI Chip system that pairs a flagship 4nm AI processor with dual dedicated imaging chips for advanced tracking, responsive performance, and improved low-light recording. Deep Track 5.0 and Rapid Focus help keep subjects framed as they move through a scene, while Dolby Vision recording and 10-bit I-Log provide greater flexibility for colour grading and post-production. Combined with built-in storage and 3-axis stabilisation, Luna Ultra delivers a shooting experience that feels more capable, more adaptable, and more self-contained than traditional compact gimbal cameras.

Dual-lens freedom in one camera

The Luna Ultra introduces Insta360’s first dual-lens gimbal camera. Rather than relying on a single lens and digital cropping, it combines a Leica Summicron wide-angle main camera with a dedicated telephoto lens. The result is a shooting experience that alternates between wider establishing shots and tighter compositions without requiring extra equipment. Five focal lengths sit at your fingertips, covering everything from expansive views to tighter framing. The telephoto system reaches a 120mm-equivalent focal length with 6x lossless zoom, then extends to a 240mm-equivalent view at 12x when additional reach is required, all without changing lenses or carrying a second camera.

Leica Summicron optics with a 1-inch 8K sensor

The main camera centres on a 1-inch 8K sensor and a Leica Summicron lens featuring a 20mm-equivalent focal length and an f1.8 aperture. It captures 8K video at up to 30fps and 4K video at 120fps with Dolby Vision support, enabling smooth slow-motion footage. With 14 stops of dynamic range, the camera retains more detail in brighter highlights and darker shadows, giving creators greater flexibility when working in changing lighting conditions. Luna Ultra also includes Leica Chrome colour profiles, bringing Leica’s signature colour aesthetics directly into the camera, while NC and CC profiles provide alternative looks to suit different subjects and personal preferences without requiring additional grading.

Leica telephoto lens for portraits and close-up detail

The dedicated telephoto lens uses a 1/1.3-inch sensor with an f2.0 aperture. Shooting at longer focal lengths changes the relationship between subject and background, producing a more natural optical blur for portraits rather than relying solely on software effects. The telephoto setup also extends into macro work, revealing texture and fine detail in close-up subjects that can be difficult to capture with wider lenses. Combined with the 3-axis gimbal stabilisation, close-up compositions remain steadier when working at longer focal lengths, where even small movements become more noticeable.

Remote control and AI subject tracking

A detachable 2-inch OLED touchscreen introduces a unique approach to monitoring and operation. With HD image transmission up to 20 metres and a built-in microphone, users can position the camera independently while maintaining control over framing, settings and audio from a distance. The remote makes it easier to capture solo photos or videos, couple shots, dynamic selfie angles and low-angle perspectives without returning to the camera after every adjustment or relying on additional accessories.

AI-powered Deep Track 5.0 supports recognition of eyes, faces, bodies, groups and pets, helping the camera maintain focus and composition as subjects move through the frame, while Rapid Focus responds quickly as subjects change direction or move unpredictably. The tracking system is designed to handle faster movement and greater distances, reducing the need for constant manual adjustments when filming solo, capturing family moments or recording action. Active Zoom Tracking can automatically adjust the focal length as subjects move closer or farther away, maintaining consistent framing without requiring manual zoom adjustments.

Low-light performance and post-production flexibility

A flagship 4nm processor works alongside dual imaging chips to form Luna Ultra's triple AI chip architecture. This processing power enables PureVideo recording at up to 4K60fps, reducing visible noise while lifting shadow detail and brightness in challenging lighting conditions.

For editors, 10-bit I-Log recording captures a wider range of tonal and colour information than standard recording modes, providing greater flexibility when adjusting exposure, contrast and colour during grading without the image breaking apart as quickly. Combined with up to 14 stops of dynamic range, it preserves highlight and shadow detail for more refined post-production adjustments. ACES certification, native compatibility with DaVinci Resolve and built-in timecode support also simplify integration into professional and multi-camera editing environments.

Everyday practicality for creators

Despite its advanced feature set, Luna Ultra remains impressively portable at approximately 233g. The built-in 1550mAh battery provides up to four hours of 1080p24fps recording or around 2.5 hours at 4K60fps, while PD fast charging replenishes the battery to 80% in approximately 25 minutes for a quick return to recording. A 47GB internal storage capacity removes the immediate need for memory cards, while compatibility with microSD cards up to 1TB supports further expansion. Built-in timecode support simplifies synchronising footage from multiple cameras during editing.

In the Creator Bundle, the included battery handle extends shooting potential, the Mic Pro transmitter adds direct wireless audio capture, and the wide-angle lens offers a broader field of view when required.
