Impressive Rectilinear Optics

For those that don't know, rectilinear optics describes the ability of a specialised lens to remove optical distortion - a common issue with wide-angle lenses at infinity focus. This means that little to no barrel or pincushioning will occur. The Laowa 15mm f2 Zero-D Lens is the second member of the "Close-to-Zero" distortion line-up after the 12mm f2.8 Zero-D. This lens also keeps chromatic aberrations (where light rays passing through a lens focus at different points) at a manageable scale - impressive considering the minimised distortions.

This ultra-wide and ultra-fast prime lens covers full-frame and APS-C sensors, comprising of twelve elements in nine groups; including two aspherical and three extra-low dispersion glasses. Despite the technical specifications required, Laowa has successfully constructed a compact, lightweight 15mm f2 lens with the impressive build quality. The Laowa 15mm f2 Zero-D Lens is a great ultra-wide angle lens for landscape and astrophotographers. Its 110° angle of view and ultra-fast f2 aperture allow photographers to easily capture extraordinary imagery of the skies and stars, as well as provide wide-angle options for landscapes and low-light shooting. Laowa are also very aware of the struggles that come with ultra-wide and fast lenses stereotypically being bulky, with large dome-shaped front elements - a serious issue for landscape photographers who require the ability to change between multiple filters.

To solve this, they have designed a flat-front surface for the lens and included a 72mm filter thread into the lens hood. This means that 72mm screw-on filters can be utilised without having to purchase heavy filter holders. The super-close focusing distance of 15cm gives photographers a new and exciting perspective, combined with the f2 aperture. This function creates some bokeh and is a great creative tool for wide-angle close-up shooting.

Clickless Aperture

Videographers are further provided with a specially constructed aperture switch to allow users to efficiently change between clickless and clicked aperture. This means that when clickless is selected, the aperture ring will not make any sound when operated - a must-have feature for filmmakers recording with audio.
