Lens Makeup

This wide-angle prime lens is characterised by its apochromatic designation. The advanced and intricate optical pathway is made up of 10 lens elements in 5 groups. 6 of these elements feature anomalous partial dispersion and high refractive index glass that virtually eliminates chromatic aberrations by focusing red, green, blue wavelengths on the same plane. The use of 3 aspherical elements with a total of four aspherical surfaces is used to reduce spherical aberrations, which is how the lens can capture edge-to-edge sharpness.

Aperture Control

Complementing the optical performance of this lens is its aperture diaphragm. Its 11-bladed opening offers a wide and versatile range from f2 - f16. The maximum f2 aperture helps this lens excel in low-light shooting environments as well as granting enhanced control of depth of field and therefore, subject-background separation. Equally, this wide aperture can produce beautifully smooth and natural bokeh that, to the trained eye, is distinctly Leica.

How does it work?
