The Leica M10-D is for those that have fond memories of the analogue age of photography. This camera effortless combines the purity of shooting on film, with the convenience and workflow efficiency of digital image-making. Virtually all automatic features have been left by the wayside, including an LCD screen - a staple for digital camera systems today. This grants unencumbered access to the four pillars of photography - shutter speed, aperture, ISO, and focus. As a manual focus camera system, the M10-D shoots still-only images and incorporates an intricately crafted 0.73x-magnification optical viewfinder. Beyond this, the M10-D still utilises a 24MP full-frame CMOS sensor and Maestro II image processor. This guarantees high-res imagery with an expanded dynamic range, high sensitivity to ISO 50000, and a 5fps continue shooting rate. Trust me, you will have trouble putting the M10-D down.

Expanded Leica M10-D Digital Camera Body Key Features:

Digital Body. Analogue Soul

The aesthetics of the M10-D are unquestionably stunning. By taking that one step further than most other M10 camera systems, the M10-D replaces the LCD screen with a tactile setting dial - reminiscent of the earlier ISO setting wheel that once took pride of place upon analog film cameras. This setting dial consists of an internal +/- 3 EV exposure compensation dial and an outer ring for the On/Off selector, as well as the dedicated On with Wi-Fi position. As another callback to the analog age of photography, an integrated fold-out thumb rest takes the place of the classic film advance lever. This further advances the M10-D’s ergonomics, handling, and shooting ability - particularly when using heavier telephoto lenses. There is also a dedicated button that sits to the right of the shutter release that enables the display of battery levels and SD storage within the viewfinder.

The M10-D can be utilised in a range of creative environments with minimal disturbance. This is due to its redesigned shutter that makes it one of the quietest of all digital and film M-series cameras. The iconic red dot has also been removed, a nod to photojournalists who take a fly-on-the-wall approach to image creation.

High-End Optics as Standard

The powerful 24MP full-frame CMOS sensor and Maestro II image processor provide a wide dynamic range with intricate colour rendering and enhanced sensitivity. This is down to its intuitive ISO 100-50000 range, suited to working in any and all lighting conditions. Further to this, the image processor integrates a 2GB buffer to facilitate fast continuous shooting at 5fps for up to 40 consecutive frames in a single burst. You can also manipulate the viewfinder frame selector to manually change the image field, providing a visual guide with varying focal lengths. These include 35mm/135mm, 28mm/90mm, and 50mm/75mm focal length pairs.

Set to match the image sensor size at a clear focusing distance of 2m, the substantial, bright-line 0.73x-magnification rangefinder consists of an automatic parallax compensation and bright-line frame lines. Its mechanism displays superimposed bright field images central to the viewfinder to aid in manual focus control. This is further backed up by focus peaking within live view - highlighting edges of contrast to allow for pinpoint focus adjustments.

The Masterful M-mount Range

The Leica M portfolio is a collection of lenses developed to fulfil the most stringent quality demands for both digital and analogue photography. Their image quality is second-to-none, pairing effortlessly with Leica’s range of compatible high-resolution camera systems. M-mount lenses were first made famous by street photographers such as Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Frank, and Sebastiao Salgado. Unrivalled in resolution, contrast, structure, tonal depth, and overall performance - the Leica M-mount range consists of a special breed of camera lens.
