Expanded Leica M11 Digital Camera Body Key Features:
Sensor & Processor
Leica has a long history of producing beautiful cameras that combine industry-defining engineering with functionality that results in impressively detailed imagery. The M11 is next in line to showcase Leica’s true mastery of camera mechanics. This body is fitted with a large 60.3MP full-frame BSI CMOS sensor with Triple Resolution Technology that offers exceptional detail in 60, 36 and 18-megapixel frames. This wouldn’t be possible without the engine that drives the camera. Leica’s Maestro III processing engine provides incredible fluid performance dealing with the huge workload and large image files.
The classic rangefinder. This is something somewhat rare in today’s modern cameras where EVF’s (electronic viewfinder) reign supreme. Well, that’s a matter of opinion, no? Rangefinders allow you to see what's going to move into the frame and make zone focusing and getting a subject/scene perfectly in focus all the easier. The Leica M11 is equipped with a large, bright-line rangefinder with automatic parallax compensation. It has a clear focusing distance of 2m and the bright-line 0.73x-magnification rangefinder consists of that automatic parallax compensation that displays superimposed bright field images central to the viewfinder to aid in manual focus control. The horizontal and vertical difference between viewfinder and lens is compensated automatically in line with the relevant focus setting.
The Leica M11 exhibits all the class and style of its predecessors, both more recent as well as that of legacy systems. The camera comes in two colours: A full-metal black housing made of magnesium and aluminium finished with a leatherette cover. And, a silver full-metal housing made of magnesium and brass, finished with a leatherette cover. Its compact and lightweight build is not only visually pleasing but lends itself to those who need to pack light. For that reason, it’s an ideal camera for street and travel photography.
The camera is beautifully designed inside and out. Aside from the aforementioned technological feats, the camera is fitted with that stunning Leica M-mount bayonet fitting with an additional sensor for 6-bit encoding. There’s a stunning 2.95” (Active Matrix TFT) 2 332 800 dot Touch Screen that’s covered in protective Gorilla Glass 5 cover glass. And, the body offers direct access to your battery, SD card slot and USB-C port. Furthermore, for the travel photographers out there, this camera has full functionality in weather conditions from +0 to +40°C.
The Story Behind ‘That’ Red Dot
Leica stands as one of the most prestigious names in photography, responsible for some of the most memorable photographs in collective memory. The first fully-functioning 35mm camera was in fact a Leica, changing the game for the artistic and journalistic mediums of photography. These values are still held in high esteem at Leica, with that ever-recognisable logo sitting proudly upon the M11.
