Distortion-less Sound
The Shotgun microphones are highly sensitive and are used to capture sounds at a distance. It picks up low-level signals and offers a focused sound when placed outside the picture. The off-axis colouration of the signals minimises sound changes when there is any movement and offers high sensitivity with low power consumption. This combination of a pressure-gradient transducer and an interference tube operates at higher frequencies and produces a lateral sound. Off-axis sounds are picked up with reduced levels.
Wide Applications
The pristine sound quality of KMR 81 I works well for broadcasting, recording and on-stage applications. It is primarily designed for film dialogue recordings as the high sensitivity captures clear sounds when kept at a distance from the subject. The lightweight design and balanced centre of gravity make it easy to handle on stage, for long hours. With its off-axis behaviour and natural sound reproduction, the microphone comes in handy to record solo instruments in an orchestra.
Shotgun Microphone
The KMR 81 I is a shotgun microphone for medium distances and takes on a super-cardioid polar pattern below 1 kHz. It becomes increasingly directional at higher frequencies and is ideal for film dialogue recordings and electronic news gatherings. It produces a clear and focused sound in noisy environments and can be used off-screen while recording. The pressure gradient condenser capsule offers a narrow acceptance angle of 90 degrees and a stunning rejection of unwanted sounds. It can handle noise and its low sensitivity to the wind; it becomes ideal for on-location use.
Filter and Attenuation
There is a 10 dB attenuation switch on the microphone that prevents a unit from overloading. It can handle high SPLs of up to 128 dB without any distortion, and 138 dB with the pre-attenuation switch engaged. The second switch activates a 200 Hz high-pass filter to compensate for the proximity effect when the microphone is used at close ranges. To lower the frequencies, the sensitivity of the microphone is attenuated by approximately 15 dB at 50 Hz.

FAQs:
What is the pickup pattern of the microphone?
The KMR 81 I shotgun microphone has a super-cardioid pickup pattern which is, unlike the cardioid pattern, more sensitive to the side of the microphone than the sounds directly at the back. It becomes increasingly directional at higher frequencies and has a flat frequency response from 100 Hz to 2 kHz.
Which all accessories are compatible with the microphone?
Various accessories are compatible with the microphone such as different stand mounts, different floor stands, a table stand, an auditorium hanger, a vertical bar, a power supply, and a stand extension. An additional windscreen is already included in the package.
What are the two switches used for?
There are two switches on the microphone – one is a pre-attenuation switch of 10 dB and the second switch activates the 200 Hz low-cut filter to compensate for the proximity effect.
How much does it weigh?
The slim and lightweight construction of the microphone enables easy handling for on-stage applications and it weighs only 145 grams.
