With a high directivity and an acceptance angle of 45-degree, the Neumann KMR 82 I is a shotgun microphone for recording from longer distances. It uses a combination of an interference tube and a pressure gradient transducer for a clear and focused sound delivery in noisy environments. The microphone is lightweight and can be used for long-distance applications such as theatres or ENG.

Neumann KMR 82 i Microphone Key Features:

  • The highly directional microphone delivers sound without off-axis colouration
  • Can be used for long-distance recordings where microphones remain invisible
  • Uses a combination of a pressure gradient transducer and an interference tube
  • Operates as an interference transducer at higher frequencies
  • Can be used to pick up sounds of individual instruments of an orchestra
  • Offers low power consumption and is lightweight for easy handling
  • Delivers clear and focused sound in noisy environments
  • The super-cardioid polar pattern offers excellent rejection of unwanted sound
  • Features a lobe-shaped pickup pattern and is frequency-independent
  • Offers a linear frequency response up to 2 kHz
  • A broad treble lift can compensate for high-frequency losses
  • Has a low self-noise of 12 dB-A and high sensitivity of 21 mV/Pa
  • Capable of withstanding high SPL of up to 128 dB
  • Consists of a high-pass filter for suppressing subsonic interference
  • Can also be used for short-distance recordings with a shift in filter frequency

Expanded Neumann KMR 82 i Microphone Key Features:

Super Cardioid Polar Pattern

The Neumann KMR 82 I has a very directional characteristic and a super-cardioid polar pattern. The directional pattern is highly directive and is lobe-shaped with an acceptance angle of 45-degree. The transducer capsule of the microphone is combined with an interference tube which is acoustically opened and has a high flow resistance. The attenuation of lateral sound is frequency independent and can determine the tonal balance of the program material. It offers a high rejection of unwanted sound, even in noisy environments, and delivers minimal off-axis colouration of the sound.

Acoustic Features

This shotgun microphone uses a combination of a pressure gradient transducer and an interference tube. It operates as a pressure gradient transducer if the wavelength of the frequency is longer than the tube length, or else it operates as an interference transducer for lateral sound. With an acceptance angle of 45 degrees, off-axis sound sources are picked up with minimal colouration. The KMR 82 I can be used to record individual instruments in an orchestral setting and pick up clear sounds in a noisy environment. The lightweight construction and low sensitivity to the wind make it ideal for stage or on-location recordings.

Wide Application Range

The microphone has a wide range of applications and is ideal for long-distance recordings, such as in ENG (electronic news gathering) or theatres. This lightweight microphone has a balanced centre of gravity and can be easily handled for long hours. It produces a natural sound and its excellent off-axis behaviour can be used to pick up individual sounds of instruments in an orchestra.

On-location Use

All of the acoustic features of the KMR 82 I enable it for on-location use with low sensitivity to winds and unwanted noise. Its balanced construction, low power consumption, and low sensitivity to noise ensures seamless use in open environments. An additional windscreen can be used in strong wind conditions, which is made from polyurethane foam to serve as soft padding.

What's in the box?

  • 1 x Neumann KMR 82 I Microphone
  • 1 x Neumann WS 82 Windscreen
  • 1 x Leather Carrying Case
  • Limited 1-Year Warranty

What are the two switches used for?

The microphone has a high-pass filter to suppress the subsonic interference and the low cut switch can be used to shift the filter frequency to 120 Hz. This compensates for the proximity effect when used for short-distance recordings. There is a second switch that is used to activate an electronic filter, to compensate for the capsule’s treble boost.

Which all accessories are compatible with the microphone?

Various Neumann accessories are compatible with the KMR 82 I such as a microphone cable, an additional windscreen, different stand extensions, a floor and a table stand, an auditorium hanger, and a power supply.

How much does it weigh?

This lightweight microphone has a slim design and a balanced centre of gravity, with a weight of only 250 grams for easy handling.

What is the supported frequency range of the microphone?

It supports a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz.

What is the microphone’s pickup pattern?

The KMR 82 I has a super-cardioid pickup pattern and has a high rejection of unwanted noise.
