Lens Elements

This lens offers a versatile focal range that is ideal for a huge range of applications, be it photographic or video capture. To achieve the image quality that this lens offers, Nikon has arranged 15 premium lens elements into 12 groups. Within these elements, there is 1 ED Glass Element, 1 Super ED Glass Element and 3 Aspherical Elements. The ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) Glass helps to obtain optimum correction of chromatic aberrations, and the Super ED Glass features even lower dispersion properties that reduce the secondary spectrum, further minimising chromatic aberration as well as other lens aberrations. In addition, its Aspherical lenses minimize coma and other types of lens aberrations, even when used at the widest aperture.

Performance

This lens is well-suited to both video and photographic applications, and this is thanks to a range of features. First up, its constant f2.8 maximum aperture and close focus. Having such a wide maximum aperture combined with Nikon’s advanced Z mirrorless cameras, allows this lens to excel in low-light conditions, as well as offering enhanced control of depth of field. This depth of field control is truly realised with the minimum close focus. This lens features a minimum focusing range of 19cm its wide 28mm and just 39cm at is mid-tele 75mm range.

Aiding smooth and precise video capture, but also benefiting stills capture is its Stepping Motor AF System. This efficient system offers fast, accurate, smooth, quiet autofocus that reduces the appearance of shakes and is ideal for video capture. As well as this, the lens features a smooth click-less programmable control ring that offers intuitive control when changing aperture, ISO and other settings.

This lens can be used on crop sensor Z-mount bodies, such as the Z50, where its focal range becomes the equivalent of a 42-112.5mm lens.
