Optical Makeup

That optical structure of this lens allows for the capture of exceptional image quality with edge-to-edge sharpness. The lens features an intricate optical pathway consisting of 14 elements arranged in 9 groups. Within these groups are an array of specialised lenses including 1 EDA lens, 2 aspherical lenses, 1 DSA lens, 2 ED lenses, 1 HD lens, 2 HR lenses. The use of these lenses helps to effectively suppress a range of optical aberrations throughout the zoom range. Furthermore, this lens features the exclusive ZERO (Zuiko Extra-low Reflection Optical) coating that minimises ghosting and flares even under backlit conditions.

Versatility

Along with its wide-angle 24mm equivalent to mid-telephoto 80mm equivalent, this lens also offers effective close-up shooting performance with a maximum image magnification of 0.6x. It features a close focusing distance of 20 cm across the entire zoom range. The result of this is the flexibility to experiment with macro photography as well as make use of its 0.6x maximum image magnification at the telephoto focal end for close-up image capture. In addition, to further the macro-capabilities even further, this lens also supports Focus Stacking.

Autofocus System

Helping you make effective use of the impressive optical performance is an advanced MSC mechanism that enables high-speed, silent autofocusing. This intelligently designed AF unit is powered by that linear motor driving MSC (Movie and Still Compatible) mechanism and is effective with both video and stills capture. Furthermore, this lens is capable of approximately 50 fps (AF/AE tracking) sequential shooting when used on the OM SYSTEM OM-1 digital camera body.

Exceptional Build Quality

Not only does this lens look the part, with its sleek and stylish design; it also is built for professional use. It is fitted with various controls for quick settings changes such as a Manual Focus Clutch mechanism and an L-Fn (lens function) button.
