Panasonic’s DC-BGH1E is an ultra-compact professional camcorder that is designed for enhanced low-light performance and is suitable for applications requiring a “camera head” form-factor such as studio set-ups, gimbal shooting and drone work. The Micro Four Thirds 10.2 Megapixel Live MOS sensor is coupled with intelligent Dual Native ISO technology that allows the capture low-light footage with significantly reduced noise. The technology allows you to shoot efficiently using a maximum ISO sensitivity of 51200. There’s a range of video recording options including 4:2:0 10-bit C4K/4K 60p / 50p internal video recording as well as the option for Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG), low-bit-rate recording C4K/4K HEVC/H.265 for HLG and VFR (Variable Frame Rate) for overcranked/undercranked video. The camera is lightweight and durable thanks to an aluminium/magnesium alloy construction and features a newly designed heat dispersion structure which enables unlimited video recording.

Panasonic’s LUMIX BGH1 is designed for enhanced sensitivity which in turn helps to produce stunning visuals. The professional camera body sees a 10.2 megapixel Live MOS imaging sensor with intelligent Dual Native ISO technology. This is coupled with Panasonic’s powerful Venus processing engine. The Dual Native ISO technology is designed in such a way that it will utilise two circuits to create two separate native ISO settings. Where we’d usually see noise increase to unbearable levels when ISO is raised on a single native ISO image sensor, this Dual system minimises the noise that is generated by choosing an optimal circuit. This is chosen according to the sensitivity before gain processing. This process results in the camera being able to efficiently record at a highly-sensitive maximum ISO of 51200 without your image being adversely affected by noise.
When it comes to video, as you can imagine, this camera can produce beautifully clear, crisp and clarity-rich video footage. You’re able to internally record 4:2:0 10-bit C4K/4K 60p / 50p video footage. This footage is recorded with a designated gamma curve compatible with ITU-R BT.2100, as well as allowing you to choose Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) in Photo Style. You’ve also got the option to use a low-bit-rate recording mode C4K/4K HEVC/H.265 for HLG.
You have a pre-installed V-Log L which features log characteristics with 13 stops of wide dynamic range. It’s also capable of C4K/4K 4:2:2 10-bit output via HDMI. Finally, Panasonic has included VFR (Variable Frame Rate) which allows you to record overcranked and undercranked video in C4K/4K (60 fps, maximum 2.5x slower in 24p), as well as FHD (240 fps, maximum 10x slower in 24p). The DC-BGH1E has a minimum frame rate for quick motion video is 2 fps.
A New Design
The Lumix DC-BGH1E has a compact box-style design that’s lightweight and durable aluminium/magnesium alloy construction. This camera design allows you to easily pair this camera with a range of filming aids such as gimbals, shoulder mounts and drones. In addition, Panasonic has developed a new heat dispersion structure which enables unlimited and versatile video recording.
The build also complies with Power over Ethernet+ (PoE+) protocols. You can control a maximum of 12 Lumix BGH1 cameras from your computer or laptop. It allows you to change various settings of the camera, perform remote recording, and save remotely recorded images to the PC. This is used via Panasonic’s PC software Lumix Tether for Multicam. Future firmware will allow wired IP streaming (RTP/RTSP) support.
Panasonic has built this camera for complete ease-of-use. To do this, and in addition to the USB 3.1 Type-C port, Panasonic included a 3G-SDI and an HDMI Type-A terminal, which allows for simultaneous output. Genlock IN and Timecode In/Out functions are included to allow multi-angle synchronised video recording. This feature allows you to build an enhanced system of external monitors, rigs and gimbals even with other branded systems. Memory-wise, the Lumix DC-BGH1E features dual SD card slots which are compatible with UHS-I/UHS-II UHS Speed Class 3 standard SDHC/SDXC Memory Cards and UHS-II Video Speed Class 90 standard SDXC Memory Cards. This choice allows for complete versatile for video backup or relay recording.
