Optical Pathway

The LUMIX S 35mm f1.8 Lens arrives as the fourth addition to Panasonic’s f1.8 prime lens lineup and as such, is equipped with an intricate array of premium glass elements that are arranged into precise groupings. This lens features 11 elements in 9 groups, including the use of three aspherical lenses and three ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) lenses. These specialised lenses are designed to provide high descriptive performance, beautiful bokeh and effectively suppress chromatic aberrations. This is a versatile lens offering a classic and timeless focal range present at the dawn of photography that’s as suited to landscapes as it is portraiture. This lens takes it a step further with a minimum focusing distance of just 0.24m meaning you can capture stunning close-up shots too.

AF Performance

Present across this series of wide aperture lenses is impressive autofocus performance. Like the others, this lens’s AF is super-smooth, precise and has a silent operation working; with your camera’s AF system to provide a maximum 240 fps sensor drive. It has a non-linear setting that allows you to selectively shift focus with variable amounts according to the rotation speed (rotational quantum) of the focus ring. The sensitivity of this can be adjusted from 90 to 360 degrees by 30 degrees to enable intended focus operation.

This lens not only excels with still photography but can offer impressive video performance thanks to an intelligent mechanism that suppresses focus breathing - Something that is inherent in the design of interchangeable lenses designed specifically for stills photography. Combining this feature with the lens’s micro-step aperture control, you’re afforded super-smooth exposure control that in turn results in professional-quality video capture.

Construction

Weighing in at a mere 295g, the LUMIX S 35mm f1.8 Lens is incredibly portable and compact in size. It is further tailored to the S5, which stands as the smallest full-frame camera model available from LUMIX. Sharing its size, centre of gravity, and exterior button layout with the 85mm (S-S85), 50mm (S-S50), and 24mm (S-S24) lens systems within this series, it actively encourages a streamlined production workflow, which is especially suited to gimbal users looking to switch lenses on the fly. Other key additions to the exterior design include a 67mm filter diameter and dust and splash resistant coatings. This allows the lens to withstand harsh shooting conditions to include temperatures as low as -10°C!

This series includes the 85mm (S-S85), 50mm (S-S50), 24mm (S-S24) and now the new 35mm (S-S35).
