New precision-engineered GR lens
At the heart of the Ricoh GR IV is the newly developed 18.3mm F2.8 GR lens, delivering a classic 28mm equivalent angle of view (equivalent in the 35mm format). Its optical construction features seven elements in five groups, including glass-moulded aspherical lens elements, with a large-diameter element used as a final lens, and high-refraction, low-dispersion elements. This design minimises distortion and chromatic aberration while maintaining edge-to-edge sharpness and exceptional contrast for high-resolution imaging.
Designed for high-resolution imaging
The GR IV is built to deliver enhanced image quality with upgraded sensitivity. Equipped with a back-illuminated APS-C CMOS sensor offering approximately 25.7 effective megapixels and the GR Engine 7 imaging processor, it ensures higher sensitivity and reduced noise. Together with Ricoh’s dedicated accelerator unit, this system optimises the high signal-to-noise ratio image data captured by the sensor, reproduces rich gradation, and ensures clarity even at the highest sensitivity settings. With ISO levels reaching up to 204800, photographers can confidently shoot in low-light conditions while retaining detail.
Advanced Shake Reduction for smooth results
Ricoh’s original SR (Shake Reduction) mechanism has been refined for this generation, providing five-axis stabilisation for smooth image capture. Compensating for pitch, yaw, roll and shift, the system delivers up to six stops of correction in central areas of the frame and four at the edges, measured under strict 2024 CIPA standards. This allows handheld shooting at slower shutter speeds without compromising image sharpness.
Rapid AF for high-speed shooting
Alongside fast autofocus performance, the GR IV features upgrades to start-up time, allowing for faster operation and ensuring you never miss a shot. A redesigned lens barrel and optimised start-up sequence give the GR IV a start-up time of just 0.6 seconds, the fastest in GR series history. Combined with a high-speed lens drive and rapid sensor readout, autofocus is both precise and quick, even in low light. Switching to macro mode is equally swift, ensuring you never miss critical moments.
Quick settings and new Cinema mode for creative control
The GR IV offers a wide range of exposure modes tailored for different shooting styles and subjects. When set to Program AE, the GR IV has a new Program Auto Ex function that enables instant shifting between aperture and shutter priority by rotating the dials. A new Snap Distance-Priority AE mode has also been added, allowing you to capture images with emphasised depth of field.
For creative expression, the new Cinema mode offers a choice of yellow or green tones to replicate film-inspired looks. The mode offers adjustable Saturation, Hue, Key, Contrast, and Grain effects, alongside two other parameters: strength and size. This enables the creation of more distinctive looks tailored to each image. You can also add additional settings to the Image Control menu as a custom mode.
Compact and functional with a 3-inch LCD monitor
The GR IV’s body has been carefully redesigned to strike a balance between compactness and handling comfort. Constructed from lightweight yet rigid magnesium alloy, it offers durability without adding bulk. The slimmer profile makes it easier to carry, while a newly contoured thumb grip ensures a secure hold during extended use. Controls and dials have been repositioned for faster operation, with the adjustment lever redesigned as a dial for more intuitive exposure changes, providing photographers with a camera that feels both robust and responsive. On the connectivity side, dual Bluetooth and wireless LAN integration allow connection to smartphones, tablets, and computers for easy transfer, remote shutter release, and geotagging through the dedicated GR WORLD smartphone app.
A 3.0-inch LCD monitor with approximately 1,037,000 dots, designed for precision viewing and reliable composition. Its air gapless construction places a special resin layer between the touch panel and reinforced glass cover, reducing reflections and light dispersion for clearer visibility. An Outdoor Monitor Setting further optimises brightness, automatically adjusting to suit both bright sunlight and low-light indoor environments.

FAQs:
What are the dimensions and weight of the Ricoh GR IV?
The Ricoh GR IV measures approximately 109.4 (W) x 61.1 (H) x 32.7 (D)mm (excluding operating controls and protrusions). The lens part measures 31.3mm (D) and the body part measures 24.5mm (D). The GR IV weighs approximately 262g, including the battery and microSD memory card, or 228g (body only), making it a pocketable digital camera ideal for street or travel photography.
What storage options does the Ricoh GR IV have?
The Ricoh GR IV features approximately 53GB of internal memory, providing a substantial amount of storage for a compact digital camera. It is also compatible with UHS-I microSD/microSDHC/microSDXC memory cards for storage expansion.
How does the Ricoh GR IV handle dust on the sensor?
The GR IV is equipped with the DR II system, combining ultrasonic vibration with an anti-stain and antistatic coating applied to the UV/IR-cut filter. This dual approach significantly improves dust removal by preventing particles from sticking to the sensor surface. As a result, photographers can maintain clean image quality with fewer interruptions for manual cleaning.
What options are available for in-camera editing?
The GR IV allows RAW development directly within the camera, enabling adjustment of parameters such as white balance, colour space, sensitivity, and shadow correction. Users can then output the processed file as a JPEG, reducing reliance on external software. Additional editing functions include cropping, resizing, level adjustment, and movie trimming.
Can I customise the controls on the Ricoh GR IV Digital Camera?
Richo’s GR IV allows extensive customisation of its controls. Functions can be assigned not only to the ADJ dial and Fn button, but also to the front and rear e-dials and the exposure compensation button, depending on the shooting mode. This flexibility enables photographers to tailor the camera to their preferred working style.
What is the battery performance like on the Ricoh GR IV Digital Camera?
Powered by the DB-120 rechargeable lithium-ion battery, the GR IV captures around 250 still images on a full charge, tested under CIPA standards. It also provides approximately 240 minutes of playback time. Actual performance may vary depending on shooting conditions, but the battery has been optimised for portable daily use.
