What’s New?
The Sigma 35mm f1.2 DG II Art is a complete redesign of the original 2019 model, offering a 30% weight reduction and a 20% shorter body for improved portability. The second generation introduces a floating focus system, which not only lowers the overall size but also refines optical performance. The lens’s autofocus has also been upgraded with a dual HLA motor system, giving faster, more precise and quieter focusing compared to the first generation.
Optical Performance
The Sigma 35mm f1.2 DG II Art Lens features exceptional resolution and clarity, even when wide open at f1.2. Its optical construction integrates four aspherical and one SLD elements, which minimise sagittal coma flare, chromatic aberration, and colour bleeding. The result is high-resolution sharpness across the frame, complemented by smooth, expressive 11-blade bokeh that enhances the separation between subject and background.
Autofocus and Video Use
The Sigma 35mm f1.2 DG II Art uses a dual HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) system to drive two focus groups with precision and near-silent speed, making it excellent for both stills and dynamic subjects. Its refined optical design and aspherical elements minimise focus breathing, keeping your framing stable when racking focus. Combined with advanced flare and ghosting control, it delivers clean, cinematic results even in challenging lighting.
Build and Handling
Manufactured in Japan, the Sigma 35mm f1.2 DG Lens combines metal components with TSC (Thermally Stable Composite) for enhanced durability and precise tolerances. Upgraded features include a customisable AFL button with assignable functions, an aperture ring with click and lock switches, and a dust- and splash-resistant structure. The front element is treated with a water- and oil-repellent coating, ensuring confidence in demanding shooting environments.

FAQs:
What is the angle of view of the Sigma 35mm f1.2 DG II L-Mount Lens?
This lens provides a 63.4° angle of view on L-Mount full-frame cameras. This field of view is well-suited for landscapes, environmental portraits, street photography, and video work that require a natural perspective.
Is the Sigma 35mm f1.2 DG II Lens compatible with filters?
The lens accepts standard 72mm screw-in filters, allowing photographers and filmmakers to use ND, polarising, or protective filters with ease. It also supports optional Sigma 72mm WR Ceramic, Protector, UV, and Circular PL filters for added control and protection.
Is the Sigma 35mm f1.2 DG II suitable for close-up work?
With a minimum focusing distance of 28cm and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:5.3, the lens allows you to capture detailed close-up shots. This distance makes it suitable for food, product, or environmental detail photography, where its wide aperture can still create shallow depth of field and smooth out-of-focus rendering.
Does this Sigma 35mm f1.2 DG II Lens have any L-Mount-specific features?
The L-Mount edition supports switching the focus ring between linear and non-linear response, allowing precise manual focusing tailored to different shooting needs. It is also compatible with the Sigma USB Dock UD-11 (sold separately), enabling firmware updates and customisation of focus functions for added flexibility.
