Expanded Sigma 50mm f1.4 DG DN Art Lens Key Features:
High-Performing Optics
Joining the already impressive roster of f1.4 DG DN Art lenses is Sigma’s 50mm f1.4 DG DN Art Lens. This high-performing standard prime lens for mirrorless cameras delivers sharp results thanks to outstanding optical design technology. The lens is constructed of fourteen elements in eleven groups, which include one SLD (Special Low Dispersion) element and three aspherical elements. These elements, paired with Super Multi-Layer Coating on the frontal lens, significantly suppress flare and other aberrations such as astigmatism, ghosting and field curvature.
The lens’ ultra-wide f1.4 aperture makes it perfect for low-light photography -whether you’re shooting a concert, poorly-lit interiors or night scenes. Such a wide aperture also creates an extremely shallow depth of field that lends itself nicely when shooting portraits or cinematic visuals. With eleven diaphragm blades, the bokeh is smooth and out-of-focus highlights are appealing.
Ultra-Fast Autofocus
What sets the 50m lens apart from the others in the f1.4 DG DN Art series is the inclusion of Sigma’s new HLA (High-Response Linear Actuator) autofocus motor. This new technology ensures fast, accurate and near-silent focusing. Even if the aperture is wide open, tracking performance remains fast and reliable. Thanks to the new HLA motor, a single double-sided aspherical element is used as the focusing lens - compared to the typical eight-element focusing group used - which improves autofocusing and delivers optical design benefits.
Advanced Features
The barrel of the 50mm f1.4 DG DN Art Lens is equipped with useful functions to make shooting effortless. An Aperture Ring Click switch allows you to swap between stepped, third-stop aperture increments or smooth, click-free action when using the manual aperture ring. The aperture ring can also be locked thanks to a dedicated lock switch. The lens features an AFL button which can be customised to perform different functions - even those that are exclusive to your camera.
Not stopping there, the lens barrel also sports a Focus Mode switch and a rubberised focus ring with smooth movement. The included petal-type lens hood features a lock button and a rubberised grip for effortless attachment and removal. This Sony E-mount version of the lens can utilise Sony’s AF Assist feature that combines manual focus and autofocus to let videographers seamlessly manually shift the focus when using autofocus.
Sturdy But Compact
Sigma has worked on making the 50mm f1.4 DG DN Art Lens compact and lightweight whilst still packing in high-end features. The small build of this lens pairs perfectly with a full-frame mirrorless camera, offering optimal performance whether they’re being used handheld or on a rig. With a rubber seal around the mount and a dust- and splash-resistant structure, the lens can still be utilised in difficult weather conditions. Water- and oil-repellant coating on the lens’ front-element makes sure the visuals you capture are always crystal-clear.
