Expanded Sigma 56mm f1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens Key Features:
Optical Structure
Sigma has set its benchmark of lens quality and construction at a very high level and rightly so. To build faith in a brand, you must deliver the results that are expected. To achieve that level with the Sigma 56mm f1.4 AF DC DN Contemporary Lens, Sigma has created a lens that incorporates 10 premium lens elements arranged into 6 groups.
Within these groups, there’s 1 special low dispersion (SLD) element that reduces colour fringing and chromatic aberrations to achieve greater clarity and colour accuracy. As well as this, there are 2 aspherical elements that are used to limit distortion and spherical aberrations and result in sharper, more accurate rendering.
Reducing glare and ghosting was a top priority for Sigma. They have addressed this with excellent results meaning that your photos will not suffer should there be strong incidental light in the scene you are trying to capture. They have also added a number of multi-layer coatings that also help the reduction as well as giving the user sharper and higher-contrasted images.
Aperture Control
Another aspect of this lens that contributes to its exceptional image quality and overall performance is its wide, bright and fast maximum f1.4 aperture. This wide aperture allows this lens to excel in low light shooting conditions, as well as offering increased control of depth of field and therefore, subject-background separation. Furthermore, this aperture can produce some truly beautiful bokeh, easily rivalling Sigma's Art series lenses.
Super Smooth Autofocus
Autofocus plays its part in this lens’s overall performance. The lens uses an advanced set of stepping motors to allow for smooth and near-silent autofocus. Using this AF mechanism allows for the effective use of this lens for both photography and videography. The Canon RF Mount also includes a control algorithm specifically developed to optimise AF drive and communication speed, resulting in high-speed autofocus and support for Servo AF. Additionally, it supports in-camera aberration correction on compatible bodies, and features a rubber-sealed mount, making it suitable for use in various environments.
