The Sony Xperia 5 II is essentially a high-powered pocket camera, editing suite and smartphone in one. Along with its big brother the Xperia 1 II, this phone was co-developed by the brains behind the celebrated Alpha 9 series - featuring RAW support, Eye Autofocus (humans and animals), and a re-designed interface to meet the requirements of professional image-makers. The Xperia 5 II is something truly special for photographers, videographers, audiophiles, and cinephiles; utilising three in-built 12MP lens types (16mm, 24mm, and 70mm). Take up the role of director, producer, cinematographer and more with matching parameters and colour settings to the professionals - providing you with "Look" colour management pre-sets, 21:9 ratio, 4K HDR, and 24fps recording. 5G connection allows for lightning-fast upload and download speeds, whilst the tactile, high-performance 6.1" FHD+ 2520 x 1080 21:9 OLED Display grants incredibly intuitive touch-control - requires a separately purchased SIM card (unlocked).

Expanded Sony Xperia 5 II Key Features:

A Cinematographer's Dream

At the core of the Sony Xperia 5 II is a powerful 1/1.7" Exmor RS sensor and BIONZ X image processor that has been optimised for mobile. With the addition of ZEISS optics, you are guaranteed high-end image quality, enhanced light intake, and sharp shooting with minimal reflections. As with Alpha 9 series mirrorless cameras, the Xperia 5 II delivers a lightning-fast autofocusing system. The in-built Dual Photo Diote sensor allows for 247 phase-detection AF points - that's an incredible 60 focusing calculations per second and focus-capture as fast as 0.03 seconds. Specific to pro-level videographers, you are provided with a 21:9 CinemaWide aspect ratio and up to 2520 x 1080 resolution, alongside improved audio capture via the intelligent built-in wind filter.

The Sony Xperia 5 II isn't just a high-performance camera - it doubles as an intuitive editing-suite that sits comfortably in one hand. The upgraded Cinema Pro "powered by CineAlta" user-interface incorporates framing guides, shutter speed (angle), touch autofocus, auto exposure, manual white balance and so much more. Further to this, the fact that you can tether your Xperia 5 II to any Sony Alpha camera system is a massive step-forward for freelance videographers, content creators and vloggers. By doing so, you transform your XPeria 5 II into a high-performance remote display where you can control settings and photos wirelessly via the Imaging Edge Mobile app. This makes the Xperia 5 II an ideal smartphone for cinematographers and moving-image makers alike - the creative possibilities are endless.

Pocket Production Assistant

For pro-level photographers, you can now capture up to 20fps continuous burst shooting - complete with autofocus and auto exposure (Maximum fps will depend on shooting environment and settings.) This is a unique feature to this particular Sony phone, alongside its ability to calculate AF/AE at up to 60 times per second. It all comes down to the super-speedy Dual Photo Diode sensor, delivering fast and accurate focusing in any and all shooting environments. This high-end autofocus system features 247 phase-detection AF points covering up to 70% of the sensor (only available on the 24mm lens) - achieving AF acquisition in a mere 0.03 seconds. Pinch to zoom and custom zoom settings lend a helping hand when it comes to focus checking, alongside independent brightness control for adapting to various lighting conditions.

Connect a USB Capture Card or UVC compatible camera to your Xperia, turning it into a high-functioning external monitor. This essentially grants you a large, high-resolution viewfinder display with frame and grid lines to aid in shot composition - ideal for vlogging. Further to this, real-time Eye AF is an ideal tool for dynamic portraiture of both people and animals. For shooting in low-light, the industry-leading 3D iToF (indirect Time-of-Flight) sensor provides precision focusing and accurate colour rendition (up to 5m distance. For videos, the 3D iToF sensor works exclusively on the 70mm lens.) Pure creative freedom is granted by the three in-built lenses in varying focal lengths: 16mm, 24mm and 70mm. Each has been constructed with high-class ZEISS quality to ensure optical clarity and true-to-form imagery.

Pro-Level Display

The Xperia 5 II consists of a stunning professional-grade display that aids in the creation, editing and viewing of high-end still and moving imagery. The 6.1" 21:9 CinemaWide™ FHD+ and HDR OLED display lets you lose yourself to the action, backed up by a 120Hz refresh rate for smooth scrolling. For gamers, you can even connect a DUALSHOCK 4 controller for improved game control, share gameplay via the Xperia 5 II, and even disable notifications, incoming calls, and camera buttons - to allow for the most immersive experience possible.

A Smartphone at Heart

When stripped back to its core, the Xperia 5 II is still a high-functioning Android phone that runs off the Android 10 operating system. It is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor and 8GB of RAM. The mid-sized 128GB built-in storage is ideal for keeping your photos, 4K video and other media safe - this can be expanded with a microSD card (sold separately) up to 256GB. The phone is unlocked and compatible with 5G networks in the UK and Europe (excludes the US), meaning that it requires a separately purchased SIM card and service plan. Other key smartphone features include built-in 2.4+5 GHz Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac), and Bluetooth 5.1. The smart in-built 4.000mAh battery can keep you going throughout a full shoot day, whilst fast-charging gives you a 50% boost in just 30 minutes. The Xperia II is truly a smartphone for the digital creatives and multimedia image-makers among us.
