A minimum object distance of just 0.19m at the wide end and 0.39m at the telephoto end allows photographers to work closer to subjects than is typically possible with many standard zooms, achieving a maximum magnification ratio of 1:4.8 at 17mm. This close-focus capability makes the lens more versatile, capable of detailed shots, food photography, and everyday objects. The optical design is complemented by a 9-blade circular diaphragm, helping produce smooth background blur and rounded out-of-focus highlights when working at the lens's constant f2.8 aperture.

VC stabilisation and RXD autofocus

Tamron's VC (Vibration Compensation) system reduces the effects of camera movement during handheld shooting.
