The TTArtisan 100mm f2.8 Macro is a full-frame medium-telephoto macro lens with 2:1 magnification, designed for extreme close-up work, preserving fine detail and offering precise manual control. With a 0.25m minimum focus distance, all-metal construction, and an optical design built for high resolution, it suits macro, product, and portrait photography where sharpness and smooth background rendering are equally important.

TTArtisan 100mm f2.8 Macro Lens for Fujifilm X Key Features:

  • Full-frame 100mm macro lens for high-magnification close-up photography
  • 12-blade diaphragm creates rounded highlights and softer out-of-focus areas
  • Optical design with 14 elements in 10 groups for high resolution
  • 0.25m closest focusing distance enables tight framing of small subjects
  • f2.8 aperture produces shallow depth of field and smooth background blur
  • 2:1 magnification allows capturing subjects at twice life-size detail
  • Front screw mount supports cold shoe bracket or LED lighting accessories
  • Manual focus with long throw for precise macro adjustments
  • 67mm filter thread supports common macro filters and accessories
  • All-metal barrel construction gives solid handling and consistent feel

High magnification macro design

The TTArtisan 100mm f2.8 Macro lens is built around true 2:1 macro capability, which allows subjects to be recorded at twice life size on the sensor. That extra magnification makes a clear difference when working with insects, textures, jewellery, or small product details where 1:1 is not always enough. The 100mm focal length also gives a useful working distance, leaving space for lighting while keeping perspective natural.

Optical design for close-range sharpness

The 14-element, 10-group construction uses high-index glass to maintain detail at close focus distances, where many lenses lose contrast. Macro photography puts more strain on optics than normal shooting, so keeping resolution consistent across the frame matters, especially for product work or flat subjects. The design is intended to give clean edges, good colour reproduction, and reliable sharpness even at higher magnification.

Manual focus control and close working distance

With a minimum focusing distance of 0.25m, the lens allows tight framing without forcing the camera too close to the subject. Manual focus is paired with a long focus throw, making small adjustments easier when the depth of field becomes extremely thin. This kind of control is important for macro shooting, where focus is often set manually or via focus stacking rather than autofocus.

Mounting point for lights and accessories

The front of the lens includes four threaded holes, and the supplied cold shoe bracket can be attached directly to them. The bracket enables mounting a small LED light close to the subject, which helps when working at high magnification, where light levels drop quickly. Keeping the light fixed to the lens also keeps the setup compact, which is useful when shooting on a table or copy stand.

Metal construction and f2.8 aperture behaviour

The lens uses an all-metal barrel with a clicked aperture ring, giving a solid, mechanical feel that suits manual shooting. The weight helps keep movements steady when focusing at close range, and the 12-blade diaphragm produces smooth out-of-focus areas when the lens is used for portraits or still life. Although designed mainly for macro, the 100mm focal length and f2.8 aperture make it usable for general telephoto work as well.

FAQs:

Does the TTArtisan 100mm f2.8 Macro really give true 2:1 magnification?

Yes. The lens is capable of 2:1 magnification, meaning the subject can appear twice life-size on the sensor. This allows much closer detail than standard 1:1 macro lenses. It is especially useful for very small subjects such as insects, textures, stamps, or electronic components. At higher magnification, careful focusing and stable support become more important.

Is this lens manual focus only?

Yes, the lens uses manual focus, which is normal for high-magnification macro lenses. Manual control allows much finer adjustment than autofocus, especially when working at 1:1 or 2:1, where the focus plane is extremely thin. The long focus throw makes it easier to set focus precisely. This is helpful when shooting on a tripod or using focus stacking.

What is the purpose of the cold shoe mount bracket?

The front of the lens has threaded holes that allow the included cold shoe bracket to be attached. This makes it possible to mount a small LED light or accessory directly to the lens. In macro photography, keeping the light close to the subject helps maintain exposure at high magnification. It also reduces the need for larger external rigs.

Can this lens be used for portraits as well as macro?

Yes, the 100mm focal length works well for portraits, giving a natural perspective and good subject separation. The f2.8 aperture and 12-blade diaphragm help produce smooth background blur. While the lens is manual focus, portrait work is possible if you are comfortable focusing by hand. Many photographers use macro lenses this way because of their sharpness.

Does the lens work on medium-format cameras without issues?

The lens is designed for full-frame coverage but can be used on some medium-format systems. At 2:1 magnification, there may be slight vignetting, but this usually disappears at lower magnification, such as 1:1. This behaviour is normal when a full-frame lens is pushed beyond its intended image circle. In most macro situations, the effect is minimal and easy to avoid.
